Yup.
My grandfather apparently was involved in the beating of a man in his neighborhood who had molested one of the little girls who lived nearby. Five guys grabbed the perp when he answered the knock at the door at 2AM and left him barely breathing on the lawn. The cops were sitting down a block or so in a car watching to make sure that they didn’t kill him.
The beating was never officially solved by the police. The guy went into the hospital for two months and then sold his home and left the area.
Although a bit unusual, it may explain why there were fewer examples of child molestation in the 1930s. It truly was a different world in those days.
