I’m 100% for Lingle now just to spite Young.
He’s doing Hirono (or REALLY REALLY wants to) and I want his girlfriend back in Hawaii (though she could get a lobbying gig and stay in DC) to punish him.

Young needs to go. For a long time now. The primary is next month.

Lingles people called me today and asked if I was voting for her. I told them first, I have to tell you something. Linda's commercials on the TV all tell us how she can reach across the aisle and work with the democrats. I said, I'm a conservative and those are RINO words to me, I don't want to reach across , I want to kick their asses. Then I said that I also realize that Linda is running in a heavy heavy Democrat State and if she does not play that non partisan card she would never get elected here. Then I said , yes I am voting for Linda for Senator just as I did when she became Governor of Hawaii years back.

Democrat-leaning states are more likely to elect Republican governors and vice versa.

Two primary opponents equals bad news for trying to unseat Young. The anti-Young vote might get split and allow Young to skate with 40% or less.

Neither looks very strong so the sack of crap will probably win easily.

Yes, Lingle will be a tropical Susan Collins (albeit more pro-military). But Hirono will be a tropical Ted Kennedy, and serve in the Senate just as long. Six years of Lingle with a second bite at the apple in 2018 (although unless the HI GOP has developed a bench by then it likely will be Lingle vs. Dem hack again) sounds a lot better than 42 years of Hirono.
Maybe we can elect moderate-to-conservative Republican Charles Djou to the U.S. House this November (he was elected to Congress with well under 50% in a special election in early 2010 but lost in November), and eventually he can run for governor or U.S. senator. We probably will never be able to elect a Jesse Helms or Paul Laxalt to the Senate from HI, but some day we could elect someone right of center. We just don’t have the bench yet.

I think it’s a fairly safe bet Hirono won’t serve 42 years in the Senate. She’d be 107.

Heh. I wasn’t aware she was that old. But if we ever get a 107-year old U.S. senator, it will be a female, Japanese-American Democrat from Hawaii.

I won’t “split hair” but she does. She ran as a Republican for governor. She’s running as a “bipartisan” candidate for Senate. Her “claim” to be the first Republican governor is just a resume enhancer. She’s never had any coattails as governor and made the Hawaii Republican Party her campaign staff. The Hawaii republican Party is the Lingle campaign and they can’t even have an honest internal vote for National Committee Man.

This is nothing less than amazing. I’d like to see some other polls, though it’s clear that Lingle is the only Republican who has any chance at all of winning this race.

Of course, look at Patsy Mink. She only made it to 74. Hirono is just 9 years away.

they cant even have an honest internal vote for National Committee Man. Ha! I know it happens here and there, but some day I would like to see for myself a state that has an honest internal vote for Committeman. Usually it's preordained.

I’m confident that Democrats would make sure that a Senator Hirono avoided the chickenpox. : |
