GOLIAD, Texas (AP) At least 11 people died Sunday and another 12 were injured after a pickup truck loaded with passengers left the highway and crashed into trees in rural South Texas, authorities said.
State troopers and Goliad County sheriff's investigators were investigating what prompted the single-vehicle crash and did not immediately know the names and ages of the victims. Gerald Bryant, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, told The Associated Press they were various ages and that he personally saw two young children among the dead at the scene.
"This is the most people I've seen in any passenger vehicle, and I've been an officer for 38 years," Bryant said, referring to the chaotic scene.
The white 2000 Ford F-250 pickup was heading north on U.S. 59 on Sunday evening when it traveled off the right side of the highway near the unincorporated community of Berclair in Goliad County and struck two large trees, Bryant said. The 23 people were loaded inside both the truck's cab and bed.

Somehow I doubt this was a redneck.
23 humans in one truck? Sounds like we got some trafficking going on down there....
23 people stuffed into one pickup. Naw, couldn't be illegals, right?
Outlaw pickup trucks.
Carrying the 23 people American F-150 owners refuse to carry.
This further demonstrates the need for sweeping gun control.
Probably just a church shuttle.....nothing illegal to see here....move along now.
ok I can just imagine people are going to pile on about how idiot it is to hav so many or any in the bed of a pickup truck, but I just watched “Machine Gun Preacher” and when people are desperate, as many are in this part of Texas, you “do what you have to do.”
In Machine Gun Preacher, Sam Childers is trying to save a bunch of kids from being conscripted and used by the LRA in Sudan, but doesn’t have enough space in the pickup, so he leaves a bunch of them for the return ride, but when he returns for them they are all dead.
Don’t you think if there were good alternatives the poor pawns in the Texas pickup would have chosen differently? This is a tragedy and we should pray that these folks’ situations improve.
Sounds like a naco cholo adventura gona malo.
Probably weren’t wearing seatbelts.
The obvious answer is to ban all motor vehicles. That would save 40,000 lives per year. Oh, and don’t forget bicycles. That would save another 700-800.
Let their situation improve south of the border. What part of illegal do you not understand?
Oh no I do understand the illegal part, and yes, the Mexicans need to develop their own country from the outlaw pit it is and improve the situation south of the border.
I definitely support legal immigration only and don’t support all this porous border, ignoring the illegal nonsense.
I am very upset with Mexico for allowing their own country to be so awful.
No doubt it’s a tragedy....tragedy is what happens when people skirt the law and rely on human merchants of doom. Short answer stay home and change the system that forces this on you. Mexico needs another revolution....the first one did not take!!!
Your "logic" works only if they were facing certain death if they didn't get into the bed of the pickup - otherwise it is just a completely asinine comment.
did not immediately know the names...
Things have changed in Texas.
ok, you are in a constructive mood this morning./sarc
I am just saying, if there were easy answers, don’t you think people would have turned to them?
Reminds me of a joke.
Why were there only 10,000 Mexicans at the Alamo?
They only hd one pick up truck.
Wah-Wah
