I'm not a big Bush fan, but he always showed compassion in a private way - he'd visit crime victims, combat injured, etc without hoopla, photo ops & advance notice to the press.

He and Laura visited Fort Hood Hospital for the wounded and dependents, the very next day (06 Nov 2009) after Hasan's murder spree. It should be noted that Crawford is only about an hour from Fort Hood by road and for Texas, that is "in the neighborhood". Still, it was done quietly and expresses a pattern in Bush'43s Presidency and afterwards, that of a gentleman. I like that.
