National Guardsman identified as Darius attended a recent "Brony" convention. (BuzzFeed/Katie Notopoulos)
There's a new insignia showing up on the sleeves of a small group of military men, ... it advertises their love for a cartoon inspired by the girlish 1980s plastic toy called "My Little Pony."
"... the bronies, have taught me that there are things and people worth protecting; things bigger and more important than myself," writes Ken "Derpy" Catlin. "All because I decided to watch some "gay" little show about 6 ponies... I cannot thank you, the MLP team, or the ponies themselves enough for what they have done for me, and this world."
Within the larger group, military Bronies hold a place of honor. At ... "BronyCon 2012" ... civilian Bronies cheered wildly when they spied brethren in uniform...
We barely made it up to the top steps and everyone outside was cheering for us," a National Guardsman ... told the site...
... A commenter on a Military Times forum was just one of many who questioned why grown men would feel such allegiance to a kids' cartoon.
I can think of at least four violations ... attending a My Little Pony convention.
... franchise has long been associated with little girls ... have sought to reel in males with more unisex storylines. The show stars Twilight Sparkle, a unicorn pony and five other ponies who are guided through ponyville by Princess Celestia.
As for the brass, asked if she had ever heard of the phenomenon of Military Bronies, a ... spokeswoman said "I'm unaware of the concept. But when told about Rainbow Dash patches finding their way onto uniforms ... there could be a problem.
Please note, non-authorized, non-military patches are not authorized for wear on military uniforms, she said.

Wow. The toy came first. Perverts expropriated the name later. Ever see faggots talk about 'my little pony' before 1983?
Well, which is it, perverts or pedophiles or as you so elegantly term it, ^”faggots”? Those aren’t all the same circle in the Venn diagram.
Jeez. This reflexive bigotry is a big problem on our side, it seems.
Also, the word you’re looking for is “appropriate.” Expropriation refers to property, not a name.
‘Appropriate’ refers to setting something aside, usually funds, for some particular purpose. But faggots have commandeered ‘my little pony’ and many other once innocent terms for their own perverted purposes. It does, indeed, amount to the expropriation of a trademark; i.e., someone’s property. ‘Appropriate’ doesn’t quite capture it.
Why are you defending the homosexual agenda with these caviling objections? Homosexuals are perverts and pedophiles, false distinctions notwithstanding. To say otherwise is a bit like saying a thief is only a diamond thief; he won’t take your money if you leave it out on the table.
In my post I invited anyone who knows what perverts mean when they speak of ‘my little pony’ to chime in and correct me if I’m wrong. That still stands. I’ll readily admit it if I’m wrong. Do you know what it means?
Why? Is being a fan of a television show grounds for dismissal?
Cartoons have had adult fans as long as cartoons have existed.
"Friendship is Magic" is simply a harmless (and very good) cartoon aimed primarily at young girls but intelligent enough for the parents to watch with them (like "Rocky and Bullwinkle," only not as political).
It took me a long time to figure it out, but after reading hundreds of threads where my little pony is referred to over there, its definitely a homosexual reference that they fear explicitly talking about online.
Only gays seem to chime in on those threads, and its something that excites and delights them and has to do with children. Now when I see it mentioned on threads over there, I run the other way as fast as I can. Disgusting stuff.
I have to emphasize again that this is only my interpretation since they wont come out and say what it actually is, only beat around the bush a whole lot in such a way that it leaves little doubt. imho
I don't know what the perverts are up to (thank G-d), but you're reading too much into this. "My Little Pony" is a cartoon franchise that's been around since the Eighties, most of which is absolute cr@p. However, the "Friendship is Magic" reboot which begain airing two years ago is excellent and beloved by a wide audience of all ages.
I can assure you that any subliminal messages would be picked up by parents and they would react very quickly. Earlier this year they censored a completely inoffensive character simply because a few parents thought it was making fun of retarded people. Any sexual propaganda would probably kill the show.
There's no sex or sexuality of any kind on the show, as is only proper. It's a children's show that is intelligent enough for adults to enjoy. That's all it is.
It's pathetic seeing what the military has turned in to.
::Facepalm:: It's just a very good cartoon show with adult fans. It has nothing to do with metrosexuals!
The military used to be a place where we made men out of boys. Its just some big social experiment now. A failed one at that.
I realize I'm probably wasting my time by typing this, but that is not a "fag" patch. It's the symbol of one of the characters, who is not a homosexual or sexual in any way. It's a very intelligent children's show that adults can enjoy as well. No faggotry involved.
What is the matter with you people? It's not about "poop sex;" it's a children's cartoon! And one clever and high quality enough that the parents and other adults can enjoy as well!
You don't care, do you?
Its all about tolerance and we all know what that means.
Well well well. Looks like you're going to have to excommunicate me from your list of friends.
"Love and tolerate" is a meme of the fandom, not a slogan from the show. Its original use was ironic, as in "if you don't like us, we bronies will lover and tolerate the $hit out of you." I don't doubt that most fans and all the creative team are liberals (just as with all entertainment) but the show is not about homosexuality or sexuality of any kind whatsoever. It's for children and their parents. Other adults simply like it as well.
Because you don't know anything about it.

Hi, ZC! Thank you for your input.
It seems there are two contexts in which ‘My Little Pony’ and ‘my little pony’ are used. In the first context, the term is capitalized to indicate that it’s a trademarked name originally belonging to Hasbro and later made into a cartoon by Disney. I have no doubt that those are completely innocent uses of the term and that no perverse sexual connotations whatsoever are attached to it.
In the second context, I don’t use caps to indicate when I’m talking about the term as used by homosexuals and which I’m sure is loaded with the most perverse sexual innuendo imaginable. And that’s the term whose meaning I’m trying to determine, though I’ll probably react with total revulsion and regret when I find out!
There was a drawing of one of the ponies with the gay pride flag beneath it.
There’s something odd about GROWN MEN who dress up in ‘My Little Pony’ costumes and attend ‘Brony’ conventions with other GROWN MEN.
I’m not talking about the kids and their parents who like this show.
But it’s another thing all together for adults to dress in costume and attend a convention with other adults.
Doesn’t that strike you as odd?
It’s the unauthorized patch on his uniform that’s the problem.
No. That's not the "gay pride" flag. That's the symbol of one of the characters. The character was supposed to be "Firefly," but the creators couldn't get the copyright on that character so instead they made her "Rainbow Dash" (based on another pony from an earlier series). The old Rainbow Dash had rainbow colored hair and a rainbow on her flank, so the new character does the same. But the character is not homosexual or sexual at all (it's a kids' show).
I don't know why the homosexuals picked the rainbow as their symbol (I've asked that question here on the forum) but that does not make the rainbow itself bad. The rainbow is also a traditional symbol of the Noachide Laws. Does that mean that Noachides are an evil "gay" plot, as anti-Semites probably believe?
Theres something odd about GROWN MEN who dress up in My Little Pony costumes and attend Brony conventions with other GROWN MEN.
All fandoms, especially those based on animation, have what is called "cosplay." It's a geek thing, not a left wing thing or even a sick thing. I'm sure there are sick people who engage in it but that doesn't mean cosplaying is in itself a bad activity.
Im not talking about the kids and their parents who like this show.
But its another thing all together for adults to dress in costume and attend a convention with other adults.
Why? So long as they're not breaking the law what are they doing wrong? And so long as they're attending conventions with other adults they aren't engaged in any sick activity with young children, are they?
Doesnt that strike you as odd?
Not particularly. No more than people who make their world revolve around the weekly NFL game (which I don't understand at all).
Although I've never been to a convention or cosplayed I'm happy to be a brony. I've written two fan fics based on the show and read many more. Do you think I'm a bad person?
If you don't want to be on my ping list just say so. But I'm sorry if you want off because of this.
I've been a fan of cartoon shows for my entire life. I never understood there to be any shame in it.
I don’t think you’re a bad person, but it’s my personal opinion that it’s odd for grown men to dress in ‘My Little Pony’ costumes and attend conventions with other grown men.
I like “SpongeBob SquarePants” but I’m not going to dress in a character costume and attend a convention.
Just my personal opinion.
As I said, it's not for everyone. I'm certainly not going to do it. But it's something "geeks" do, whatever show they're fans of. There is a prohibition of men and women dressing in clothes of the opposite sex. Now that would be a problem.
I like SpongeBob SquarePants but Im not going to dress in a character costume and attend a convention.
I've heard it's a very intelligent cartoon, but like so many with FIM, I've just never watched it. It's not my thing. FIM is. No biggie. And no one is making anyone dress in a costume so far as I know, and if you chose to do so, I don't think it would necessarily be wrong.
Just my personal opinion.
I don't have a problem with personal opinions. I have problems with people who want to make hatred of this perfectly inoffensive (and very high quality) cartoon show a plank in the conservative platform and declare everyone who enjoys it to be "the enemy." That is what I have a problem with and that is what some people are trying to do.
How many good conservatives go watch shoot-'em-ups at the theater? Although it's not my thing and is created by liberals, that doesn't mean I'm going to declare that everyone who enjoys watching those shows a liberal.
Isn't there enough sure-enough bad stuff out there to fight against?
