An Egyptian court has sentenced an Islamist politician to jail for committing an indecent sexual act in public and assaulting police who arrested him, in a case that could damage the image of his ultra-conservative movement.

Ali Wanees was detained in June on a main road outside Cairo. A young woman wearing a full face veil was sitting on top of him in a parked car, according to police.

Wanees said the woman was a relative and he had been trying to revive her after she suffered from an ailment which he did not explain.

The woman was sentenced to six months in prison, state news agency MENA said on Saturday, adding that both could avoid prison if they paid a fine. Wanees was convicted in absentia and his whereabouts were unknown.

Earlier this year a member of al-Nour, another Salafi group, resigned in disgrace.

Seeking to explain bandages on his face, he said he had been attacked by gunmen. It later emerged he had undergone cosmetic surgery on his nose, a practice forbidden by his movement.

Remember boys and girls, in the jargon of Yellow Journalism, only the broad brush applies.

- The Communists attempting to hold onto power during the 1990 Russian Second Revolution were "ultra-Conservatives"

- Islamic Fascists are "ultra-Conservatives"

- Left-wing dictators (when they fall out of favor with the media) are "ultra-Conservatives"

- Bible believing Christians are "ultra-Conservatives"

Got it?

There is no religion, group of people, or movement more filled with hypocrisy then Islam, unless of course it would be politically correct reporters.

“....suffering from an ailment....”

I’m familiar with that ailment. I think it started in Hawaii and the south Pacific. The street name for it over there is “lackanooki.” It has also been referred to here in the CONUS as “meesohorny.”

No charge for this info. Pushing the frontiers of education is our mission. ;o)

You left out: Nazis are ultra-conservative.

BTW, all these designations, except the Nazi one, are accurate.

Each of these groups is trying to conserve the base values of its group.

The problem is that those base values are very different between the groups, so they have nothing else in common.

American conservatives literally have almost nothing in common with Muslim conservatives, other than a distaste for some “modern” sexual attitudes. We have remarkably little in common with most types of European conservatives, whose conservatism, at least historically, is based on “blood and soil,” or “King and Church” values.

American conservatives really need some sort of positive designation, since “conservative” is a purely negative one.

Actually, I’m not sure “conservative” is even accurate anymore. I believe most conservatives really want to make significant changes, rolling back government power, while liberal want to keep that power as it is. Doesn’t that make “liberals” today the conservatives, in the literal sense of the term?

Ah, yes, the old "CPR" excuse.
