My guess why no one fought back is that the theater was filled with children and adult children. The average mental age of people attending those movies I would guess to be at 10-12 years old. However, there seems to be something strange about the shooter and his preparations. 10 - 20 thousand dollars for equipment, bomb making abilities and supplies, and his easy surrender just don’t add up. Something is just wrong about the whole thing.

Nevermind. I just read the article that claims he spent at least $15,000. I guess I am in the “What the Hell?” camp now, too.
I don’t understand why he didn’t just put a small bomb in the theater. He had the equipment and the know how obviously... Why a gun? He took his time and didn’t even try to escape... If escaping was the motive behind the booby trapped apartment, then why take your time with a gun. You could kill just as many or more with a small bomb....
