Most wouldn't last 48 hours. We are so dependent on technology, we have no idea how to cope if power went out for any extended period of time, say like during the Blackout of 1977. I remember growing up, we had 4-H Clubs, were kids could get exposed to the basics of farming and agriculture. Do they even have those anymore?
When I lived in East TX (a short 9 years ago) they still had 4-H because my friend’s daughter had rabbits and chickens she showed (and we went and walked around to have a look see). I’m sure they still do it in places like that. But yeah, most people wouldn’t have a clue. On the other hand, I think I can make do.
When we had Wilma, we didn’t have electricity for about 2 weeks. Most of our neighbors headed north to stay in motels or with family etc. We stayed and *camped*. It was no big deal, we had our grill and plenty of canned goods and batteries. I admit I was glad when things got back to normal, but it was much better than it could have been.
hehe
Yes, there is still 4H and FFA. 4H is under the auspices of state universities and is unbelievably politically correct. FFA no longer even uses the term ‘Farmers’.
Yes, but not so much anymore and primarily in rural areas. There is a huge divide between rural and urban thinking.
Yes, they certainly do, but your premise is correct.
What most do not realize is that in case of a collapse or interruption, we would not revert to 19th Century methods, we would end up at 15th century methods after an 80% die off rate.
We simply do not have the skills, experience, or understanding to start at the 19th Century at all.
Excellent book on the reversion to such methods after a collapse
They sure do - and they also have a 4-H club for shooting - my 14yo daughter has belonged to that since she was 10.
