Between his mother’s immediate reaction to the news and his academic ability, this is beginning to look like another case of severe and dangerous mental illness.

Having had experience with such in my extended family, it’s devastating for both family and anyone with whom such an individual comes in contact.

This was well-planned, but I’ve seen a desperately ill relative function with more focus and planning when off his meds than when on. Scary, scary business.

Mom obviously knew something was really wrong with him.

Great post, which will of course be completely and utterly ignorned in this thread.

The other thing which I don't know if you've noticed is that there is a substantial part of FR which seems to literally believe there is no such thing as mental illness.

Yep. I’m thinking paranoid schizophrenic. I bet mom faced countless frustration trying to get the medical and legal systems to pay attention to her concerns.

My suspicions are due to,
A. The mother’s remarks.
B. Age of the perpetrator.
C. Intelligence of the perpetrator.
D. His dropping out of Med school.
E. His identifying with the “Bane” fictional character.
F. His loner status (yeah it is cliched but often so true)
G. The planning that this took.
