The young man who is in custody after allegedly gunning down 12 people in a mass shooting spree overnight in Aurora, Colorado has been identified as local resident James Holmes, according to federal authorities.

If he's Muslim, he's 'mentally ill' and ONLY represents himself. Even if he was screaming allah akbar... He's he's black - the story gets dropped. Period. Over. If he's a conservative, we all get painted with the broad brush of hatred and the New York Times runs retrospectives for the next 10 years.

That seems prudent. With the current level of unrest, it’s difficult to guess what impact this will have on any one of several fringe groups.
I was listening to an urban contemporary radio station on the way in this morning, the Tom Joyner Morning Show.
They were claiming that the audience was majority black and that the shooter was white.
Looks like somebody was primed to run witht a Treyvon narrative.

What is the media going to constantly ask about at the premiere if they had it?
When there is an obvious, simple explanation for something, why bother developing an elaborate conspiracy theory?

Not sure that information would be released unless a friend of the perp or the perp himself tells us.
However, the media has already published more about this guy's background than than Obama's.
Anyone who has worked in a latenight club or restaurant will testify that the later it gets the darker. A movie theater worker would experience the same phenomenon. It's just the way it is.
As for political exploitation there will be many competing ones, including, "Let's all come together now and support ...me." Wicked.
The media and the DOJ, and Homeland inSecurity will pin the motivation of this murder on a group of people. They will do it early before anyone has any real information on the perp. They will target YOUR political ideology and your second amendment rights!
Because of this, we have to work to identify the associations and motives of the shooter, ASAP. You may not like it, but this is the world we live in and one side can not afford to pretend they are above it all and get themselves and each other pinned as domestic terrorists.
It is very important that Freepers and all conservatives work to pin down who this shooter is before Obama’s media lie that the shooter is a Tea Partier, travels around the world and becomes ‘fact.’

July 16, 19 or thereabouts Mars moves to oppose Uranus and square Pluto. On July 6, Mars was on the USA ascendant signaling a new two year phase in how we perceive ourselves and t he world sees us. I wouldn't be so quick to say so. Charles Starkweather, Howard Unruh, Carill Fugate, Melvin Collins...and that's just a brief list. True, there weren't as many, but it's not like they didn't exist.
With everything interconnected today by the media, we become aware of anything and (almost) everything in a matter of minutes. Very few things are 'local' anymore, which is why there seems to be a growing epidemic of violent crimes, even though - statistically - all violent crime (murder included) have been on downward trends since the early 90s.
You could make the argument that video games are 'programming' people, true. You could also make the argument that video games serve as a form of catharsis to release aggression.
But I suppose we won't know the true results of what today's popular culture will bring until today's children become older...so, probably not until the 2020s and the 2030s will the consequences be felt.
If something more worrisome (like America defaulting) hasn't occurred by then, that is. But alas.
