That would require thinking outside of their normal parameters so that realization will never happen.

I've thought that very same thought. From a mechanical standpoint, a firearm and its ammunition are a simple piece of machinery to reproduce, especially if you have a mechanical/machine building background. Things that make you go “Hmmm”.

I already have the machinist prints for the MkII STEN Gun & magazine the weapon is literally a few springs, sheet metal,exhaust pipe. The one part that requires any machinist skills to make is the bolt & anybody with community college shop classes could handle that.
