"The U.S. Navy's new class of carriers will be the first to go without urinals, a decision made in part to give the service flexibility in accommodating female sailors, the Navy says.
The change heralded by the Gerald R. Ford class of carriers – starting with the namesake carrier due in late 2015.
Omitting urinals lets the Navy easily switch the designation of any restroom – or head, in naval parlance – from male to female, or vice versa, helping the ship adapt to changing crew compositions over time.
Heads will be attached to berthing compartments. Currently, many sailors have to traverse a passageway between a berthing and a head.
Urinal drain pipes clog more than toilets and therefore can be smellier and costlier to maintain."
Poor Gerald Ford. Still can't get any respect. These new class of carriers should have Obama's name on every 'head.' Navy vet here just shaking his head - the one on my shoulders.

When sequestration hits next January 1, all bathrooms on all naval surface ships will consist of an Obama unisex toilet—a ladder to a toilet seat mounted five feet off the side of the ship.
The urinals have dividers on land so that the homos can’t look at your willy.
It is still sexist until they have coed showers and berthing compartments.

it’s true..sea water and urine together create calcium deposits in pipes..a real PITA when underway. After being on the last class of subs that had them (585 class) the only way you can unclog them is large amounts of Citric acid. Put up with that for years on my last Fast Boat..USS Shark SSN 591.

In the old Navy homos would use the urinal next to yours in order to check out your junk and then they got busted.
Now that Obama has ruled that homos can look at your junk all they want urinals could become areas of conflict.

and urinals use a lot less water than toilets...didn't anyone figure that part out?

I wonder if they have enough women to fill up a berthing compartment. I heard that was a big problem as women are small in number and have to have their own berthing spaces.
