Start at verse 12 to get the context.
Dryland farming is used most often to grow corn and small grains. Not every farm has water rights and the water right laws vary from state to state.
In our state those who get water from the main river have been cut to 35% of their water.
Try drip irrigation, 2500.00 per acre if you hire someone to do it a little less if you do it all yourself.
LOL, my husband and I are average aged American farmers at 58. There is only one farmer under 30 in our county, we started when we were 19.
I do understand the suicide thing, I always say that the only way to quit farming is to go completely broke or die. When we started farming there were almost 400 farmers in our county there are 28 now.
There are 2 farms near us that are being farmed by non-farmers, it is really sad all the money that is being wasted because they just don’t get it. We have given them advice but they don’t listen. It is so hard to farm if you haven’t grown up with it because there is so much involved from mechanics and money management to plant science and chemistry, knowing when to water and fertilize, marketing decisions, just hundreds of things every week.
In 1988 the government still had stocks of grains for “just in case” but no more. There is carry-over but it is usually in private hands.
Growing with GM seed and practices associated with it (wondering).
Ah! Yes! AGW....the concensus:
Consensus means that everyone agrees to say collectively what no one believes individually Abba Eban
Humanism/socialism/communism = paganism.
1) I didn’t call you a barbarian. I said you “reminded” me of one. I could have chosen a better word, but I was multi-tasking.
2) I didn’t attack you.
3) Human kind is no bigger a sinner now than it ever has been. There is no new sin under the sun. They’ve all been done before, one way or another. There are just more of us to be doing the sinning, so, to us, there’s more sin.
4) God is no angrier at death by abortion than He was as He watched millions upon millions die in Europe during WWII and all the wars before that throughout history. Sin entered the world, and it’s been a sinful place ever since.
5) In trying to understand God, we bring Him down to our level because we cannot possibly rise to His level.
6) This current drought in the mid-West is just another of the many droughts over the millenia. Why is this one particularly a sign from God? I don’t believe it is. Same for earthquakes. Just because they scare me to death doesn’t mean they’re a sign from God.
Just my interpretation. No further comments on this topic will follow.
You should read the Bible. It’ll clear up your misconceptions about God.
Thanks blam. This isn’t even the worst drought in my lifetime, leave alone “in history”. :’)
