There was a time, not too long ago when all geologists believed in gradualism.
There was a time, not too long ago when slavery was justified by the Bible.
Now most scientists recognize that although most processes are gradual, game changers do happen. This is usually called "punctuated equilibrium".
Now most Bible believers use the Bible to excoriate slavery and racism. This is called. "Biblical Truth".
(Which oddly enough is exactly what they called it when it was being used to justify slavery)...

Slavery, as mentioned/defined/used in the Bible is NOT the slavery we encountered here. It was more ‘indentured servant’ style. In no place does the Bible ‘endorse’ the practice of slavery, as we know it to be.
Context, especially historical, is everything.
