Imagine a new immigration policy
Minneapolis "Red" Star ^ | July 14, 2012 | Roberto Soro

Posted on 07/15/2012 8:50:20 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

A century ago, the immigrants from across the Atlantic included settlers and sojourners. Along with the many folks looking to make a permanent home in the United States came those who had no intention to stay, and who would make some money and then go home.

Today, we are much more rigid about immigrants. We divide newcomers into two categories: legal or illegal, good or bad.

We don't need more categories, but we need to change the way we think about categories. We need to look beyond strict definitions of legal and illegal. To start, we can recognize the new birds of passage, those living and thriving in the gray areas. We might then begin to solve our immigration challenges.

Crop pickers, violinists, construction workers, entrepreneurs, engineers, home health-care aides and particle physicists are among today's birds of passage.

With or without permission, they straddle laws, jurisdictions and identities with ease. We need them to imagine the United States as a place where they can be productive for a while without committing themselves to staying forever. We need them to feel that home can be both here and there and that they can belong to two nations honorably.

Imagine life with a radically different immigration policy ...

I wonder if Mr. Soro would think differently if one of these illegal "birds of passage" murdered his sister.

So, the author is proposing the border-jumping illegal aliens of today are just as humble and salt-of-the-earth as those original "sojourners" of yesteryear who were just looking to earn a meager wage for a short time. By analogy, I guess that means the "sojourners" came from "across the Atlantic", but somehow, when they arrived, they didn't bother to check in, or register, at Ellis Island, or other entry ports of the day, when they got off the boat; they just slipped past the immigration folks and headed out to do one of those temporary jobs for a while and then boarded a boat for a ride back home. Sojourners: the original illegal aliens?

Kill birthright citizenship (or properly interpret it).
No E Verify, no workee (or something similar).
No E Verify, no welfare (or something similar).
Make it easier for legals to visit temporarily.
Secure the border (which the above will make easier)

And rapists, murderers, drug dealers, terrorist, anti-American militants, disease ridden thugs, Antichrist wannabe's, ect., however we have immigration laws to help prevent them from making it to our country ILLEGALLY but those at the Star & Sickle prefer to open our borders to all and rid ourselves of those pesky laws that protect us LEGAL citizens.

Put a bounty on ILLEGALS (the problem would go away quickly)

I am. In my imagination, treasonous enablers like you - who are ruining all of our lives - go straight to hell.

We don't have any Americans that can do these things? We need "birds of passage" to do them for us? I've already spent some big bucks this summer washing "birds of passage" handiwork off of my car. We're not getting the normal amount of "monsoon" rains.

Imagine a new immigration policy?

Why make new laws that won’t be enforced?

Just imagine enforcing the laws we already have.

We already have a “new immigration policy” which does not enforce existing immigration laws.

1. Announce a deadline, maybe six weeks from now, by which anyone here illegally must vacate the country. Anyone caught after the deadline will be deported and permanently banned from ever entering the country again.

2. End citizenship for children born on US soil to illegal parents. End any benefits, including education and anything except emergency medical care. At the completion of the medical procedure, they are to be deported and their country of origin billed.

3. E-Verify mandatory. If illegals are found in the employ of a business, they are deported and the business fined. For a year, the business is under close scrutiny. If any illegals are further hired, those doing the hiring are subject to arrest (an illegal slipping through in spite of due diligence is a defense).

I can imagine several immigration policies,
however, they all start with...
1. SEAL THE BORDERS.

Now we can talk about the rest.

It’s amazing how the lamestream media, in collution with these politicians have completely changed the tone of this argument. Let’s go back, oh, let’s say 30 years. At that time, there were 3 million illegal invaders in this country. They made an agreement with Reagan, that if Reagan would agree to allow the 3 million to become US citizens, the democratic congress would pass a very stringent law that will stop ALL illegal entries into the USA. Reagan agreed and the democratic congress reneged. Now we have 12 to 20 million illegal invaders, and true to form, the democrats again want to make an agreement with any one, that if they would only allow these 12 or 20 millions citizenship, they will for sure, write a very stingent law that will stop ALL illegal entries in to the USA, and enforce that NEW LAW. Are we going to be foolish enough to believe them, this time?

Imagine no welfare state with everyone paying taxes on everything they purchase but only citizens getting a monthly check to rebate some of the taxes. Imagine every recreational substance available from the corner drugstore taxed appropriately. Imagine no weapons restrictions. Imagine thieves, rapists, and murderers hang from the neck til dead within a week of the crime.

This writer was the Washington Post’s “objective” reporter who covered immigration issues back in the mid-90s. I always thought then that he had an agenda. Notice how they delicately avoid mentioning that.
