Isn’t this just an attempt to shore up his lagging base? It will not get him new voters or even return the lost ones.

As for the work requirement: I’ve known people who had to take disability just to get extreme medical costs covered. They were actually limited as to how much they could earn and if they earned over and received medical care, had to reimburse the system for the overage they had earned. One told me she wished she could work more and still get the medical coverage for her chronic disease. Now, it is even more difficult, as she must travel 50 miles to a VA center for medical care. I was surprised, but then someone else told me that low-income Medicaid patients are routinely treated at the VA.

Yikes! Now there is something that I've never heard. Taxpayer funded IHS (Indian Health Services)hospital really put the squeeze on their patients to force them onto state Medicaid. It's like the taxpayers are paying for those medical services twice.
