More American Indians were killed by other American Indians than whites. But the greatest killer was disease.

Where I presently live in the Pacific Northwest, the main culprit in death dealing was german measles brought by whaling ships.

By the time white settlers dragged into this part of North America during the 1840s, most American Indian tribes had been decimated by diseases.

I did some investigating about small pox. The variola virus is only transferable via a small window of time, about five minutes, and mostly person-to-person. It is very, very difficult, almost impossible, to weaponize as a bioweapon.

There is no way it could be spread by “infected blankets” as so many left-wing academics have posited. I know the British tried to do so, but that wasn’t successful. A more likely scenario was exposure to blood when killing or scalping, or taking prized items from a recently killed white. All it would take to wipe out a village later is one person, exposed to the virus, coming back from a raid.

OK, knock it off with the Black Legends, both of you.

The Native Americans/Indians were largely wiped out by encounters with white men, but neither the Spanish nor the British are guilty of this. To the largest extent, it was disease.
