It is true that some people do not have IDs, and that a higher proportion of those people are black than the population as a whole. But the problem is not that they can't vote without an ID, it is that they don't have an ID in the first place. People have to have an ID to get jobs, to get credit, to fly on an airplane, get a library card, to listen to Holder's dumb speeches. It takes an ID to get through life these days. So why does Holder want black people to be blocked out of the mainstream of society and keep them on the margin?

In the early days of the NAACP, one of the organization's main missions was to get blacks registered to vote. This consisted of not only of fighting poll tax laws, but to actually go out and get blacks to register. The NAACP can be doing the same thing today, going out and making sure blacks have IDs, rather than sitting around listening to Holder. It would be a more productive use of their time. No one would stop them from having a drive to get people the proper ID, so that those people can participate more fully as citizens.

So, to keep this in prospective....all of these people who lack a photo ID....have a bigger problem. They can’t buy booze because if the clerk asks for an ID...they are screwed. If they look young, they can’t buy cigerettes. They can’t walk through a airport because TSA will ask for an ID and a ticket. They can’t get anything much accomplished at the Social Security Administration office. They can’t cash checks, or open bank accounts. They can’t join the US military. They can’t get narcotic drugs at the pharmacy. They can’t get a business license. They will have trouble registering a car. They will have trouble registering at any major city for a rally, protest or parade. They probably won’t be able to stand on any jurty duty. If they get stopped by a cop....even for jay-walking....they will have a tough time. They probably will have trouble getting a marriage license, or getting divorced. They can’t rent cars at the airport. They won’t be able to cross the border into Mexico or Canada. And in some states, they won’t be able to get a hunting license.

Basically, it’s a pretty tough life to live....without the photo ID, and you better have a plan “B”.
