AUGUSTA, MaineDemocratic lawmakers are calling on Maine Gov. Paul LePage to apologize for his remarks comparing the Internal Revenue Service to the Gestapo.
The Democratic leaders of the House and Senate issued a statement Sunday calling LePage's language "intentionally offensive." Rep. Emily Cain and Sen. Justin Alfond said Holocaust survivors and Word War II veterans who witnessed the terror of the Adolph Hitler's secret police "should not be trivialized for political shock."

This faux outrage from the people that have repeatedly called Republicans “Nazis” for years?
Ha Ha Ha. The governor should hold a press conference and point that out.

Might I suggest the party designation ‘Democrat’ no longer be used here at FR? Let’s call them ‘SOCIALIST’ and not allow them to hide behind a false moniker!

The Gestapo was more brutal, but the IRS is more efficient.

Keep article handy:
"Cain announced she would seek to replace fellow Democrat Elizabeth Schneider in the Maine Senate in 2012. Schneider is unable to run due to term-limits, as Cain is unable to run for the House of Representatives again because of the same limits."
Justin Alford must do the same this November....he and Cain should take this time to learn about the Gestapo and their duties...both these politicians are fairly young...Main should be embarrassed..............

I sear if Obamataxcare succeeds somebody is going to greet the tax man at the front door with a shotgun.
Or they will attack them openly.
Or do a suicide attempt like flying an aircraft into a local IRS office.

After eight years of “Chimpy McBushhitler”, the Dims can take their “outrage” and shove it!
To: Bikkuri
Yes it did, a father despondant with IRS threats flew his plane into a Federal building.
The MSM promptly ignored it, and will do so again, even if it occurs in much larger numbers.

I agree. It's disgraceful to compare the IRS to the Gestapo. However, the Stasi...which combined all the best points of the Gestapo and the KGB...would be a much more appropriate comparison.

The basic Gestapo law passed by the government in 1936 gave the Gestapo carte blanche to operate without judicial oversight. The Gestapo was specifically exempted from responsibility to administrative courts, where citizens normally could sue the state to conform to laws. As early as 1935, however, a Prussian administrative court had ruled that the Gestapo's actions were not subject to judicial review. The SS officer Werner Best, onetime head of legal affairs in the Gestapo, summed up this policy by saying, "As long as the police carries out the will of the leadership, it is acting legally."the comparison sounds pretty accurate. Why do the 'rats have a problem with it?

LePage: IRS is new Gestapo. Besides, everyone knows the real Nazis are the TSA.
Why couldn't it be the Border Patrol instead?

Of course, they would have feigned outrage My point was that KGB serves the purpose just as well and they cannot use THIS PARTICULAR line of “trivializing the Holocaust.” Sure, they’d have used a different rationale for outrage, but the “Holocaust” riposte is a hanging pitch waiting to be hit out of the park. Why make their job easier?

Proof that there are Democrats who imagine taxes are collected without the use of firearms. So do lots of taxpayers. Legally, taxes are forced transfers of wealth; I don't need to dwell on that. Pretending that they're "voluntary contributions" quiets some people's nerves. It's like they pretend that the local bully's their friend because he only whales on them once a year.
To: Houghton M.
I hope he doesnt back down, but he should have used KGB instead. It would have precluded this particular line of faux-offendedness.I understand your point -- and it's probably true. But I'm tired of catering to the faux-outrage crowd. The Gestapo existed, everyone knows its reputation, and so I say let's end the one-sided agreement to refrain from Nazi comparisons.
They can certainly be overdone -- this case might be one where it was. But if we're to be racists, then let them be Nazis.
