One of the Tea Party's most critical battles is heating up in Texas, where two conservative Republicans will slug it out for their party's Senate nomination later this month.
State and national Tea Party groups are backing former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz, who they hope will join a small but growing group of U.S. senators aligned with the conservative movement and pushing an agenda of less government spending, lower taxes and fewer regulations.
Cruz faces David Dewhurst, the state's lieutenant governor, in a July 31 runoff election after finishing at the top of the May 29 primary. Dewhurst beat Cruz by 10 percentage points but fell short of the 50 percent needed to avoid a runoff.
The Texas race has captivated the Republican Right. The popular blog RedState calls it "the most important battle for conservatives this year" and is pushing for a Cruz victory.
In the face of Dewhurst's apparent lead, state and national Tea Party groups are pouring money and manpower into Cruz's campaign.
They want Cruz to join the growing ranks of Tea Party senators, including Jim DeMint of South Carolina, Marco Rubio of Florida, Mike Lee of Utah, Rand Paul of Kentucky, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin.
And they have good reason to feel hopeful.

Dewhurst’s constant attack ads on TV have turned me off. I’m for Cruz.

“Oh. How ImPRESSive.”
Yes, but he wasn’t.
Dewcrist is a big gubmint liberal.
Dewpiss is no conservative.
He will vote exactly how Mitch McConnell tells him to vote.
He has been Perry’s bitch for years. If elected, he will be
Mitch Mcconnels Bitch.
Dewhurst zaffed(killed by committee assignment) Senator's Birdwell's bill to stop in-state tuition for illegals.
Which Dewhurst guest worker statement should we believe?
2007: "I support secure borders both North and South and I support a guest worker program for those here today illegally." SOURCE
2012: "I dont support a guest worker program, never have, until and unless Congress addresses this but after, and only after, we have secured our border. - Last Debate
Liberal reporters are never impressed by conservatives.
“Just a reminder, Im pretty sure I told you in a previous Dewhurst thread Im not paid or connected in any way with the Dewhurst campaign, nor have I ever even met the Lt. Governor.”
“You can say that all you want but I’m not buying!”
At first, my feelings were hurt that a fellow conservative (no matter that he is a conservative gullible enough to fall for the Connecticut Counselor’s Career Politician Plan) would so lightly accuse me of lying when my statement is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, but after all, you are just an anonymous poster on an internet forum, so who cares.
Then, I realized what you said was a compliment, because it recognized the truth and effectiveness of my postings that defended Lt. Governor Dewhurst against the lies promulgated by the Cruz campaign. Why, my posts were so good, you and several others who were stung by the simple truth that Lt. Governor Dewhurst has always been a solid conservative and is vastly more qualified to represent the State of Texas as a U.S. Senator than Cruz, could not believe that a regular citizen such as myself could so easily make such profoundly persuasive arguments.
But then, I suddenly realized what I had been missing in my willingness to take the Cruz posters at their word, claiming that they were just tea-party patriots trying to challenge what they think is the GOP-e, even though they know Cruz is endorsed by the Bush family and Dewhurst is the farthest thing from the GOP-e. What they had in common, and what I was ignoring, was the use by you Cruz supporters of the tactic of accusing me of what you yourselves are guilty of, that is; being a paid (or in your case probably unpaid) campaign worker posting on internet forums, trolling for votes!
You lose. I’m not a reporter or a liberal.
Is “gross revenues tax” Dewhurst paying you to post?

You aren’t very smart, are you? “Reporters” are not the only people who do interviews.
Par for the course for Dewhurst supporters.

All I can say is that you are ignorant of the facts concerning these two candidates.
Ignorance is curable, Stupidity is forever. A vote for Dewhurst is an indication of stupidity.
Since there is no indication that you possess the information to educate yourself and cure your ignorance there is no reason for me (or anyone) to attempt to discus this further. Bye!
Even though you admit to being a cranky old bastard, that does not mean I’ve given up on you as a conservative who just might take another look and reconsider a judgement that may be based on false information being disseminated by a lying liberal carpetbagging Harvard lawyer.
Here is some true information that you could use to educate yourself, and, by-the-way, cranky old bastards don’t get to just tell people off like that on this forum without response. I just hope at your age you still posess the attention-span to read posts longer than 4 or four sentences.
Theres a major reason why TEXAS conservatives are coalescing behind Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in the open U.S. Senate race. While virtually all candidates in the extended field agree we need a dramatic housecleaning in Washington, Dewhurst is the sole contender who has proven he can deliver on what he promises.
Dewhurst has compiled an impressive record of budget-cutting and trimming government, starting in his first political office with a major reduction in force at the General Land Office. He continued to hold the line during his five legislative sessions as Lieutenant Governor. Even during periodic rough economic times, the Texas Legislature has eliminated expected shortfalls and balanced the state budget entirely by cutting spending, never once resorting to a general tax increase. Thats a record unmatched anywhere in the country.
Dewhurst has also pushed through legislation protecting vulnerable human life, (ever hear of the Texas sonogram law and Texas defunding of the Planned Parenthood abotionists?) trimming excesses of personal injury trial lawyers, maintaining a job-friendly regulatory and tax climate, safeguarding the integrity of elections (strongest Voter ID Law out there and currently being litigated by the State of Texas AG against the feds challenges to it) and reducing taxes when possible - all while strengthening our border security (and its true he has passed everything he can to do so without getting us sued by the Federal Government like Arizona - and when that is decided in the courts, Im sure we will get similar legislation in Texas done). He has helped create a favorable business climate that has attracted businesses and created jobs, and made Texas the envy of other states during this post-2008 recession. When Dewhurst vows to take this Texas model to Washington, he does so with credibility and personal experience.
Dewhurst has managed to accomplish all this in the Texas Senate, where the minority party still has the numbers to stop any legislation dead in its tracks. But Dewhurst has a businessmans ability to work to a successful deal without sacrificing his principles. As Ronald Reagan advocated, he takes 90 percent and tries to get the remaining 10 percent next time. Hes been equally effective in enacting conservative social policy as well. As one prominent pro-life leader has said: Until Lt. Gov. Dewhurst was elected, the state senate was where our legislation came to die. He has been a game-changer for the pro-family movement.
Even as Lt. Governor, Dewhurst has never been part of the inside Austin establishment. He was strongly opposed by the lobby when he first ran for Lt. Governor. Since his election, hes been a quiet and persistent advocate for transparency and reform, and an enemy of business as usual. Hes developed a well-deserved reputation for intelligence, integrity and independence. He is serious about public policy. Dewhurst is never afraid to dive into issues and come up with solutions that embrace free market principles, as hes done with state health care and other issues. And hes as persistent as he is serious. He will make a principled and determined U.S. Senator.
After making it in the energy and agriculture sectors, starting relatively late in life, Dewhurst became active in political life - even while continuing to run his investment firm. He knows from personal experience that our national wealth expands, and our people become prosperous, only when the private sector takes risks and creates jobs. More importantly, he knows how the heavy hand of government can undermine the hopes and dreams of entrepreneurs and small businessmen. Congress needs more businessmen, more men and women who have created jobs and who can address our troubled economy with personal experience and conviction.
The U.S. Senate race has produced a number of solid candidates and future political talent. Virtually all of them talk the talk about cleaning up the mess in Washington - repealing Obamacare, reducing spending, creating a good business environment. But only one has truly walked the walk, and proven that he can deliver. Dewhurst has a solid track record of accomplishment reining in government on the state level, balancing budgets, protecting the core American family, defending our sovereignty, and safeguarding the American dream for future generations.
I’m waiting for her to re-paste the Wall Of Text/ Life Of Kim Jong Dewhurst from an earlier thread. Oh, wait, she already did.
Do your fingers hurt after typing all that propaganda?
David DEW hurst is as establishment as they come and always has been!
