I first heard the football story on my grandmother’s 45 record player as a very young child. It was the funniest story that I had ever heard at the time. I practically wore out the record, playing it so many times.

My condolences to his family. However, I wish I could remember him fondly. I don’t. Instead, I remember him as someone who echoed my American values and principles in his acting and then made his inspiration a lie. It was a disappointment to me when I found out what he was really like.

He was my Chief Justice Roberts of TV personalities.

Which movie is this? The one where he says “iff u wanna protest, then protest” as he’s trying to talk some sense into some wayward type

Classless, Laz.

Surely your mama taught you that there are times in which if you can’t say something nice, say nothing at all.

Don’t forget that Griffith was big time in the tank for obamadoesn’tCare. He did many many advertisements for the
nightmare that has been forced on us regular people of “Mayberry”.

Rodney Dillard of the Dillards band (the “Darlings” of the Griffith Show fame) put out an album “I Wish Life Was Like Mayberry”. The album points out, rather poignantly how far the small town person and caring and values have disappeared. Those people are “fly over” country for the Statists, you know.

How ironic Griffith carried water for obama and the liberal Statist agenda— which would never allow small town values, religion, and morals to enter into the discussion of the limits of Statist government.

AFITC was written by Budd Shulberg and directed by Elia Kazan who were both anti-communist.

Kind of a quick burial, wasn’t it? Maybe there ought to be an investigation or a coroner’s report.

I'll probably get flamed for this...and the post might even be deleted but....I had a lot of respect for Griffith until fairly recently when I saw him shilling OsamaObamaCare on TV.At that point he became just another showbiz son-of-a-gun in my mind.

The Andy Griffith Show—specifically, “The Barney Years”—is my favorite TV show of all time. Regardless of anything else, Andy did give us that, and I am grateful.

One of my favorite scenes from the show, it always helps me destress when I watch it. Thanks for posting the link.

No matter what Griffith’s Democratic leanings were, they appeared to be the more benign type from the old fashioned democrats I ran across as a child, not the far leftists who took over that party. Or at least he kept his proclivities in check during the run of the show. No matter how he ended up shilling Obamacare later in life, it doesn’t take away from the family-oriented entertainment he provided for many years, IMHO.

Where have you gone, Mayberry USA?

Things changed after Andy and co. left. The local economy faltered badly as a result of the federal government's attacks on the tobacco industry in the 1990s. Small businesses began to leave, storefronts were left dilapidated and broken from disuse, the infrastructure fell into disrepair.

Attempts by the government to replace the once-thriving business base with a "welfare economy," replete with Section 8 public housing and a plethora of other social programs, resulted in drastic demographic and social changes, radically altering the way of life for the erstwhile sleepy little North Carolina town.

Unfortunately, it wasn't exactly what the few remaining residents had hoped for.

I agree. The "Andy Griffith Show" was always a staple of TV watching when I was growing up.

The 86-year-old Griffith lives on Roanoke Island, not far from the Lost Colony, a play he performed in right after high school.

His pics from the Lost Colony actings days adorn the walls at Roanoke Island. It's beautiful out there.

I said as close to nothing as possible. I will not laud the man whatsoever.

But I did it for myself. I don't particularly concern myself with other's opinions of my posts.
