Good profile there on Newt. He indeed was run out of town by the same breed of schmucks still causing problems today.

His post-congressional dalliances with the various lib causes was foolish, and he deserved every bit of criticism received. I do believe, however, that given the directive, he’d follow through as a reliable Conservative perhaps for only a single term. He tends to wander.

Really his issues as Speaker could have been an outcome a lot worse. When you privy to national security your personal behavior matters. You can't allow your conduct to make you a target for extortion or blackmail. It's not what's known publicly about someone that's the danger it's what the public doesn't know that's the enemies weapon.

During that era a lot of personal info on a lot of persons was in the hands of some who may have chosen to use it. I'm just saying the reality of it and the danger.
