With shortages of power and rising costs of fuels, Embu prison in Kenya has turned to human excrement to generate power.
Bio-gas now fuels three boilers in the prison kitchen, and firewood costs have been cut down by more than half. Many hope the innovative form of recycling and generating power could be applied in not only all prisons across the country but also in other institutions to significantly reduce energy bills. Waste not, want not
To generate power, human waste is put into a machine called the "digester" and bio-gas is produced by bacteria during a 30-day fermentation period. The gas, which consists mainly of methane, is then captured and burnt as fuel.
Once the bio-gas has been produced and stored in the collection chamber, the remaining slurry is pushed out through the outlet of the dry bend. There the remaining water is purified and the slurry is later released to the farm.

So how many hundreds of billions of dollars are we going to be forced to send to Kenya for the ‘secret’ of their technology?
What sewage processing plant?
It's Kenya, and a prison.
Our Kenyan is full of more crap than your Kenyan.
No because in Kenya human beings are the food of the future.
The crap coming out of DC could power the universe.
they call kenyan’s “soylent brown”
Its powering politics here, right now.
Bio-gas now fuels three boilers in the prison kitchen
I prefer home-cooking.
Apparently, they never heard the saying "don't crap where you eat."
Barney F. says "Drill Baby Drill".
Now you are beginning to realize why we can no longer have 5 gallon toilets. The size will get ever smaller.
I sure hope the “digester” gets a nice Christmas bonus and lots of vacation time. Whatta job
And then it is put over the next "generation" of foodstuffs.
Now now, its not their fault they’ve just discovered that this fire stuff works on substances other than dried buffalo dung.
Will you be so haughty when they make the connection between drinking water contaminated by raw sewage and sh*tting yourself to death a day or two later? I think not.
You ain’t had real BBQ ‘til you tried Well-Dung Waygu,, leaves a nice brown crunchy sorta crust,, 2 Mugs up for Yuppies!
The topic of the waste of US cities was brought up.
Lots of human waste in D.C. Waste of space. Waste of carbon.
And plenty of people there who know how to shovel it.
Our municipal sewage plant generates its own electricity using methane. They told me they generate enough that they don’t have to buy power except from a black start.
And from what I recall a major city we did work in was doing the same thing. This isn’t unusual I don’t think. The methane is generated anyway as you treat the waste so its just a matter of capturing it and burning it in an engine which drives a generator.
Suggest the Kenyan go back to Kenya and solve their energy problem...after all he’s full of $#it!
The prisoners say “don’t eat the food....it tastes like shit!”
