How's the strictest gun control laws in America working out for ya there, Chi-town?
New York Times:

Mr. Emanuel listed safer streets among his top three priorities when he became mayor a year ago, but Chicago, the nation's third-largest city, is now testing that promise. Homicides are up by 38 percent from a year ago, and shootings have increased as well, even as killings have held steady or dropped in New York, Los Angeles and some other cities. As of June 17, 240 people had been killed here this year, mostly in shootings, 66 more deaths than occurred in the same period in 2011.
"That's somebody's husband, somebody's son, and they're dying right on our block," said Maya Hodari, who lives on a South Side street where two shootings have already taken place this year, one of them fatal and another as a toddler looked on. "It hurts."
The violence has left its largest scars in some of Chicago's most impoverished, struggling neighborhoods on the South and West Sides, places with views of the city's gleaming downtown skyline that feel worlds apart. Wealthier, whiter parts of the city have not been entirely immune - shootings were reported in the last few days along the city's Magnificent Mile shopping district and near the Lincoln Park Zoo - but a majority of the killings have been tied to Chicago's increasingly
complicated gang warfare, police statistics suggest, and to the gritty neighborhoods where gangs have long thrived.

To make matters worse, there has been an epidemic of "flash mob" violence as groups of black youths suddenly attack whites in apparent racially motivated incidents. The media is downplaying the attacks, which are becoming more frequent as kids are now out of school and roaming the streets at night.

95 to 100 degrees forecast from now thru the 4th.
Guaranteed to up the body count.
God help them all, we’re reaping the whirlwind of devaluing human life. Well done Lyndon “Great Society” Johnson.

Detroit on the other hand is now the justified homicide capitol.
Just think how much better off they would be if they passed some sort of strict gun control laws in obamacago. Oooppsss! Forgot you can’t have guns there already. Looks like that’s working out real well for them. Hmmmm? Anybody check to see if there is a fast and furious type operation happening up there? Probably running guns across the Kentucky border in to southern Illinois and on up to chitown.
I remember my first “day off” from boot camp at GLNTC in ‘67 and going to Chicago. Our company did real good and on my 2nd “leave” we went to Milwaukee instead. Much better choice at the time. Chitown sucked back then too. Did NOT feel safe there at all.
Helping keep mankind warm for 65 years.
The ‘yute’ code is to never, never talk to the cops, making it very difficult to find the perps much less gather evidence for a conviction.
A rich market for race-baitors to do their thing. The complicit media doesn’t help.
They should’ve kept the Robert Taylor Homes and Cabrini Green projects. At least much of the homicidal crime was better contained in a smaller, more definable area. Now the knuckledragging feral gangbangers are dispersed throughout the entire south side.
These are the children and grandchildren of LBJ.
He should’ve stuck to being chief of staff and harassing people in the shower.
I was at a joint assignment at USMEPCOM there from 92-95. Much of the criminal element had moved north into North Chicago and Waukegan by then. Those who value their safety avoid the Amstutz Expressway at night. It truly is a jungle out there.
HMMMMMMM???????? Murders seem to have gone up since Rahm Emmanuel came to office.
Is that mere coincidence?
Chicago: 240 murders - pop. 2.875 million
Philadelphia: 190 murders - pop. 1.5 million
Detroit: 170 murders - pop. 713,000
NYC: 170 murders - pop. 8.25 million
These stats are for 2012 as of June 12. What do you think is being protested by NYC’s minority leaders in spite of the fact that 94% of those murdered in NYC are minorities? They are protesting the “stop and frisk” policies being employed by the NYPD. I worked the streets of the Bronx in the early 80’s when we were doing about 2,000 homicides per year. I understand the dislike of the “stop and frisk” policy, but it takes ILLEGAL guns off the street. I think the stats show that “strong” gun laws have no effect, other than the opposite of the one intended as all 4 of these cities have been predominantly controlled by Democrats who favor said gun laws.
This is what happens when only the outlaws have guns.
Weather seems to drive homicides in Chicago. The hotter it is the larger the homicide rate. I guess global warming advocates can prop up their silliness with the argument that CO2 is a contributing factor to the extinction of Crips and Bloods. I do know that I do not need a weather report to fine tune my attire for the day to dress weather appropriate.Just tell me how many folks were shot last night
What I don't get is why this is "astonishing." Chicago has gun control. This means that the law abiding citizens are disarmed and helpless and the criminals (both government and random) are the only ones capable of protecting themselves. What is astonishing is that Chicago's murder rate isn't much higher.
This is, of course, impossible... the reporter must have made a mistake.
All of Chicago is a gun-free zone.
Black youths are nothing but walking sandbags in the left’s war on the American way of life.
The hatred of the white man trumps everything with black
politicans. Actually,Kabul is safer than Chicago!
Detroit, Chicago.....and add Memphis and Little Rock to the list of cities you should drive straight through. And if you have enough gas, drive around them if you can.
And the problem is if you’re white you’ve already been told you’ll be arrested if you try to defend yourself. RE Zimmerman
The rumor that obama wants riots so he can declare marshall law is looking more and more to be true.
I recall driving by Cabrini Green back in the late 80’s. You don’t stop for red lights. While doing genealogy back in the early 2000’s, I visited my family’s home church on Ashland Ave, just North of Roosevelt Rd (now part of Chicago Circle Campus area). I was greeted and given a tour by a very personable black gentleman, then drove through the old family area (they lived there back in the late 1800’s). Housing developments, and run down two-story homes, now, much of it torn down and un-developed. I saw what I wanted to see, and got out of there. I live 80 miles West of Chicago, and have no intention of returning.
Speaking of Milwaukee, sure, it’s a liberal government-run city like Chicago, but we’ve always enjoyed visits there and plan another later this summer. I want to have lunch at Mader’s Restaurant. Haven’t been there in decades...
NYC also has tough gun laws. I hate to say this but you need a tough crackdown on crime before allowing everyone to have a gun, if you want to see a crime reduction.
