Here’s the thing about that - the states have never enforced Federal laws and the Federal authorities have never enforced state laws.
A state arresting someone who has an arrest warrant on the Federal level - is simply handing them over to the Federal authorities and nothing more than that. past that point, it’s the Federal authorities who enforce their Federal laws.
And the Federal authorities arresting someone who has a warrant for arrest from the state - is nothing more than simply handing the person over to the state authorities. And past that point it’s only the state authorities who enforce their own laws.
The bottom line is that the states have never enforced Federal laws and the Federal authorities have never enforced state laws.
Thanks for your thoughtful reply. The fundamental issue seems to be there is nothing Arizona (or other states) can do to protect their residents and property. A state cannot rely on the federal government since it may not enforce its own laws, and a state cannot enforce its own laws if the federal government doesn’t like them. Sounds like they’re in a Catch-22 situation, at least until the next election when Obama gets tossed out.
