People are still bellyaching about Romney becoming the Republican candidate; but my question is this:

Where were the conservative candidates after McCain lost as far as thinking about the 2012 election? Did any of them begin building an organization, raising funds, getting out their beliefs and why they should be elected? None of the candidates, including Gingrich who I voted for in the primary, did that. Romney was the only Republican who decided that he wanted to be president enough that he began working to get known and support for winning the Republican nomination. None of the following did that: Gingrich, Palin, Santorum, Pawlenty, Cain. Thompson and Guiliani didn’t even get back into thinking about trying again after being defeated by McLaime.

You are absolutely right, GreyFriar, that Romney built his org. for seven years..so raised way more money, made connections and worked harder and longer than the others.
But that doesn’t mean that there weren’t other good candidates...just that they didn’t start conniving early like Mittens did.

There were a few Conservatives in the bunch. Unfortunately Romney, the last man standing, is not one of them.

What you say here is the simple, obvious truth. Yet this site is lousy with self-described "conservatives" who claim without evidence that the whole nominating process was wired for Romney from the beginning by the "GOP-e".

Winning the nomination is a process. Romney worked long and hard and smart and accomplished that goal. The others all did less and fell short.

There is nothing conservative about failing to recognize genuine accomplishment.

I did.

Even before McCain quite predictably lost.

I don't control those conservative candidates but I DO control my vote and the votes of my family and Obozo gets none of those votes AND for precisely the same reasons neither does Romney.

I am a Catholic. Romney has already persecuted by church (and every other pro-life church) in Massachusetts by making it fund abortion, sterilization, abortifacient IUDs, and abortifacient "morning after pills" and has never even seen fit to apologize much less promise not to do so in his alleged and fabled "replacement" of Obozocare. Obozo proposes through the Sebelius regulations to do likewise but a smidgeon less (which matters not a bit to me because a persecutor is a persecutor).

To the Romney pom pom girls out there whose brains seem to have been removed because of blindered and single-minded (although quite understandable) Obozo hatred, I challenge you, particularly those whining about how close-minded we terrible extremists are in refusing to support your POS excuse for a candidate, to be the first with a rational excuse for why I should vote to elect Romney who HAS ALREADY and WILL persecute my Church, is as much of a galloping pro-abort as Obozo, just as in love with justifying and coddling rump-ranging posing as "marriage," gun grabbing, and a host of other actually meaningful issues worth caring about unlike Muffy's trust fund.
