This may be part of the problem. Had I, back in the 50's, failed to respect an elder, my father would have whipped me every step of the way to the door of the person I owed an apology to just to assure that I did apologize.
But back then, adults were more important than children.
So true. At all of our large gatherings, the women would feed the men, then the women would eat, then us kids would get the leftovers.
