I was also on Gabpentin. My doctor said it was designed as a drug for seizures but that it didn’t work any better than the anti-seizure meds they already had. They prescribed it for off label use and gave it to me.
I took it exactly as they said to do and nothing happened, good or bad so they took me off of it. I’ve still got some laying around.
I just tried to find it and can’t, I know I put it somewhere where it wouldn’t get lost but of course, it’s in a nice and cosy place... somewhere.
yes, Gabapentin didn’t work very well for seizures, but because we didn’t have to check blood levels and because it didn’t interfere with the drug metabolism of the other seizure medicines, we often used it for people who needed a second medicine to help stop seizures.
It’s not quite as strong as tegretol for Tic doloreaux either, but because of the lack of problems with it, we might use it more.
However, for diabetics etc. neuropathy we rarely used the stonger anti seizure medicines, again because of side effects and drug interaction problems, but gabapentin could be used and it worked, especially when we just used it at night (because of sleepiness side effects with gabapentin).
Since I worked for the IHS, the federal clinics for native Americans, we had limited number of medicines for our patients, so usually we used the cheaper gabapentin...to use the newer medicine meant you had to prove the patient couldn’t use the cheaper drug. (something to remember when Obamacare starts).
Not all medicines work for everyone, so your doctor will probably keep looking for something that does work.
