Romney Risks Losing Latino Voters As Activists Push For Immigration Reform Latino organisations urge Romney to come out in support of the president's plan as Obama enjoys a boost in popularity

Mitt Romney is coming under pressure from Latino activists to come off the fence on immigration reform when he speaks at a major conference in Florida.
Latino organisations urged him to come out in support of Barack Obama's announcement on Friday suspending deportations of up to 800,000 young undocumented migrants and offering them two-year work permits.
Romney ducked the issue in an interview on Sunday, refusing to say whether, as president, he would reverse Obama's decision.
Obama's move upset tentative Republican plans for a modest immigration reform package. Romney had been watching moves by Florida senator and potential vice-presidential running mate Marco Rubio towards a plan that would have allowed some young illegal immigrants to work in the US legally.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Monday, Rubio acknowledged that his push was now dead. "People are going to say to me: 'Why are we going to need to do anything on this now? It has been dealt with. We can wait until after the election,'" Rubio said. "And it is going to be hard to argue against that."
Romney is scheduled to address a conference in Orlando of Latino public officials on Thursday. Obama is scheduled to address it the following day.
About 1,000 Latino officials have signed up to attend the three-day convention, where the increasingly pivotal role of Latinos in US politics will be among the topics discussed.
Cesar Vargas, managing partner of the DRM Capitol Group, one of the leading organisations representing undocumented youth, said: "Romney needs to do a serious catch-up.

The president is elected to represent the citizens of this country, not non-citizens. They’re needs are irrelevant other than their human rights as protected by the constitution.
“Latino organisations urge Romney to come out in support of the president’s plan”
Cue Admiral Ackbar: “IT’S A TRAP!”
I know Obama may not know this but these people have been voting all along and they do NOT vote Republican. There’s NOTHING to gain by taking a stance on an issue that LEGALLY died in Congress. The Dream Act failed.
This executive order is in John Boehner’s lap now.
Let me tell you. My city is flooded with Somalis. Back during Bush vs Gore I went to the polls and saw many Somalis in line to vote in that election.
The next day one of my Somali co-workers who had just arrived to the USA only 3 months before asked me who I voted for. I told him I voted for Bush. He told me he voted for Al Gore. Another Somali told me he also voted and mentioned something about Clinton and a voting card upon arrival in the US. I have no idea what he was talking about.
The last I knew... even legal immigrants cannot vote in our elections (at least general elections). They must be here for a certain number of years and I think they also need to become US Citizens before they can vote. I also think its 5 years in the US before you can apply for citizenship.
That being said you can bet all you got in the bank that not only are legal immigrants voting in the general but also illegals vote in the general. In many places they do not even ask for your ID and they would fear being sued if they were to actually come out and ask for proof of citizenship or even legal status.
Dont think for a moment that they dont vote. They do and they have been for quite a few years now.
Personally I do not think Obama will gain many votes from illegals because of this executive order simply because theyve been most likely voting already anyways.
The challenge should be the legality of HOW this Amnesty was passed and not the policy itself. The American people will send a message come this November.
It’s a trap.
Well you can always tell Mittens how you feel about that. Since you cannot start your own thread on his Facebook just comment under the most recent post even if it’s got nothing to do with the issue. That’s what I always do. His people DO read the comments.

The commies are really pushing this but it’s not working.
“Contraception” failed.
“Gay marriage” failed.
“Economic reset” failed.
Now amnesty for youngish illegals is failing.
Bambi keeps shooting blanks.
He is toast.
I know quite a few 2nd and 3rd generation Hispanics who absolutely oppose Obama’s “amnesty”.
Exactly.
It is not an executive order.
So far it is just a bunch of hand-waving.
Romney was asked on Face the Nation whether he'd overturn this.
He demurred, but the correct answer might have been "Overturn what?"
Obama has not actually done anything yet on this issue.

Saint Obonso
The Republican Party in general and Romney in particular can’t lose something that they never had.
These Latino organizations want to have their cake and eat it too and they want Romney to put the icing on their cake.
It’s a trick and a trap.
“The president is elected to represent the citizens of this country, not non-citizens. Theyre needs are irrelevant other than their human rights as protected by the constitution.”

Exactly...Why would legal and naturalized Hispanic US citizens
want to show favor to illegals?
The only ones that would be angry are those who would not even be legally registered to vote.
Well no kidding.
Romney has nothing prepared on principle, so he sends out Rubio to fish for some version of the Dream Act, or whatever. No plan, nothing whatsoever put together on how to facilitate it, so as Gloria Borger said, Obama heard the rhetoric, saw all the loose ends, and drove a Mack truck right through the gap. LOL!
Now we will be stuck listening to the brouhaha over Obama’s “method”, and Romney gets to pass on the substance that he is FOR, after he was AGAINST it in all the debates.
As for Rubio, he was just doing tryouts for Myth, for VP, but Obama blew them both up. Period.
Latino activists? Who are they?
Why does everyone think they have power?
Why must they be pleased?
This is crazy.
Romney is FOR resetting the economy (as he did in Massachusetts).
Romney is FOR gay adoption of innocent babies and children.
Romney is for individual mandate (as he did in MA.)
(Yes, I know, he is for states right to do whatever, and he did it.)
Romney was FOR religious liberty imposition of abortion services and all manner of birth control contraception and abortifacents for the religious insititutions in MA.
Romney was FOR placing on the state mandate oversight board the representative from Planned Parenthood.
(Yes, I know, someone made him do it.) He has no conscience of his own.
Romney is FORimmigration exceptions for high end illegals, science, math, etc., but sent Rubio out to hawk for an alternate version of the Dream Act for youngsters of illegals.
(Yes, I know, he freaked out when that practice came from Rick Perry’s lips.) That was then. This is now.
Nothing is failing. What planet are you on. Obama did all this. Romney did all this. It is accomplished.
Romney approves the substance but will bark about the method, so he doesn’t have to commit to the substance before the election. (This goes, btw, for every other issue under the sun, as he continues to prattle about nothingness but platitudes.)
On Face the Nation, Schiffer could not GET Romney to say he would repeal Obamacare. He could not GET Romney to say how long Obamacare would be left to stand, until Romney figures it out.
Translation: There will be no Day 1 actual “repeal”, nor on any other day.
The GOP deserves as much blame for our problems with illegal immigration over the years. I thought after 9-11, Bush would at the very least secure the borders. Even Reagan granted amnesty.
Big business and the GOP are in bed together. As long as big business loves cheap labor and continues to bribe the GOP, not much will be done.
Then in a few years, the GOP will wonder why they cannot get elected anywhere.
