The only flaw I see with the analogy is the pathetic attempt to portray Pol Pot as some sort of leader who shaped the movement.

He was not.

Pot was middle management who wound up on top of the heap when grizzly infighting removed those at the top, and the middle echelons elevated one of their own to the fore.

You have a reference for that. My understanding is that he was GenSec from 1963 on.
