I doubt it's underwater volcanic activity of some long inactive volcano since volcanoes often are preceded with tremors...

Ummm, Japan's had a few 'tremors' recently...

That does make one say, "uh-oh." How close were the epicenters to Osaka, if you happen know?

I don't want to wish any further misfortune on those poor people. They just can't seem to catch a break. That island must be one of the worst geological formations on Earth to call home, IF you take the short view.

Otherwise, anyone choosing to live within 1,000 or 2,000 miles (depending on who you talk to) of Yellowstone, or any of the planet's other super-volcanoes, won't look too bright either, me included. But, I am kind of hoping, for their sake, it is just a plankton bloom, since all the alternatives I can think of are a lot worse.
