Do I have that right? Is that really your analysis.

Not quite. If you go through my post history you'll find your summary is a pretty shallow scratch on a marketing analysis. It goes a lot deeper and focuses on the damage Romney will do to the republican "brand" and how that undoes the progress we've made and makes future battles far more difficult. Allowing Romney to redefine "conservatism" is a dramatic, expensive, and far reaching error. But, I'll understand if you didn't get that message; it is better suited for a board room than a blog.

Are you also comparing the nation today to 1857? Americans are waking to the threat that we face and are acting on it or did you miss the 2010 midterms and the Wisconsin recall?

FRiend, I live in Wisconsin; those are my boots on the ground helping Scott Walker. I know the facts, the statistics, and the monumental effort it took to defend him during this recall. I also firmly believe Obama will succeed in Wisconsin in November. Why? Because Obama's opposition here is comprised of hard-working, church-going, family-loving, Constitution-regarding, small-business owning grass-roots conservatives. To such a population, Romney embodies numerous detestable qualities. We just won't get fired up to support him like we did Walker. Any *real* conservative could have turned Wisconsin red this election. But for most of us, Romney falls into enemy camp territory and we won't go there. Call it honor, pride, wisdom, whatever.

I only have Virgil Goode's record to use when examining his character. I POST'd his OnTheIssues page on FR a couple time. This is the same basis I uses to examine Romney's character. The comparison is not even close. I can't see the future -- who will be a Benedict Arnold and who will not. But I can assign a probability of it statistically. Given the two choices I'd put my faith in Goode over Romney any day. I would trust Goode at my political back -- not so for Romney.

Thank you for your reasonable response. I’ve been reading here for a while and that is indeed rare.

I did not take the time to read your posting history. I merely replied to your comments. I would bet that we agree 99% of the time on the issues. Like with my friend, I cannot proclaim that you are wrong, we just disagree on the best tactic to oust Obama.

BTW, that you for your efforts in Wisconsin. OUTSTANDING!

As the vote approaches, I think (without evidence, just an educated hunch) that people in your state and across the nation will see that despite the similarities in Romney and Obama, there is also a stark contrast and they will cast their vote for Obama.

One final point, is anyone claiming that Romney is a conservative? A republican, for sure, but I don’t think that Romney will destroy the conservative brand because he will be fought at every turn by conservatives. Perhaps by 2016 we will have established a true conservative party and the death of the GOP as it is presently constituted will not be a big loss for us.
