Why? What would that have gotten them? Wouldn't the logical thing be to stay where you were and let granddad come around in time -- or not?
Why would it have been so important to appease old Hussein Onyango? It's not like he was a king or there was a king or chief or there was a family fortune or Barack Sr. was planning to spend his life in the village.
It's all the less likely when you remember that Barack Sr. already had a Kenyan wife. Why risk being exposed as a bigamist and losing one or both of your wives?
All in all, we can see that Barack Sr. wasn't really very big on family or progeny. Why would he have taken this unnecessary trip with a pregnant White wife -- a trip that could only make trouble for him?
Bigamy was not illegal in Kenya.
However, I think that there are a lot of holes in that story too — not the least that it would have been expensive to travel to Kenya in 1961. I don’t know what was going on. I do know that in those years the Communist Party shuffled money to people they wanted to sponsor.
I know of a case in 1963 where the CPUSA installed a family into a house in my neighborhood in Berkeley. The man had no money. He didn’t even know that you needed a down payment to purchase a house (I knew the Realtor). Suddenly, he had money, a house, and was being given a welcoming party by the local Communist neighborhood leader. He went on to be head of the Armed Services Committee in the US Congress, aka “Red” Ron Dellums.
What if Frank marshall Davis were the father of Stanley Ann’s unborn child? The CPUSA would have been interested in keeping Davis out of trouble. Getting an underage white girl preggers would definitely have been trouble. But Barakc Obama Sr,. was handy and needing cash. What better way to get the heat off of Davis than to pay BO Sr. and get him into Harvard in exchange for taking “credit” for little BO II.
The focus is off of Davis, BO Sr. is out of sight in Cambridge, and Stanley Ann is giving birth somewhere off the island.
