Stafford: Why I gave up on being a Republican
Jersey Journal NJ.com ^ | June 13, 2012 | Michael Stafford

Posted on 06/13/2012 1:47:14 AM PDT by SMGFan

I'm a life-long Republican. My political affiliation has been woven intrinsically into the very fabric of my being. My first political act was passionately lobbying my fourth-grade classmates to vote for Reagan over Walter Mondale in a mock election in 1984. As an adult, I continued to be a rock-solid Republican- I helped run my law school's chapter of the Federalist Society and its Republican club. And after the election of President Obama in 2008, I served as an officer in my state Republican Party. For the next two years, I devoted substantial amounts of my time, my talent, and my treasure to supporting local candidates running for office and to building the Party organization. Today, however, I am a registered Republican no longer.

Beat you to it Moonbat, by about 40 years.

I also left the Republican Party back in 73 when that wuss, RINO, Gerald Ford ignored his oath he took and refused to abide by the Paris Peace Accords and come to the aid of our Allies (South Vietnam) as promised, should the North attempt to take over the South.

Regardless of the DemoRats cutting off funding, he could have ignored them and issued orders upholding our commitments but chose instead to do nothing.

After having served for 18 months in Nam (and working closely with many South Vietnamese as well as living off base) I left many acquaintances and several friends who to this day, don't know how they fared when the Commies overran the South, but based upon reports, those who trusted us and worked with us, ended up in "re-education" camps, prisons or worse.

Since then, I have been an Independent, albeit, unlike this phony, charlatan, RINO, a 100% Conservative, thru and thru.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Perhaps he can apply for a job working for Jeb Bush or Karl Rove as I'm certain he would be welcome.

I am almost willing to drop my affiliation with the Republican party myself, but not for any of the reasons this clown spouted.

My reasons are that half the Republican leadership should be registered Democrats. The Republicans let Democrats walk all over them, They need to summon some courage and fight.
Our candidate was not picked by rank and file Republicans but by leadership, and he sucks. Republicans have stood by and let Obama take control of the country by Executive order instead of the Constitutional process of Congress and done nothing.McConnel and Boehner put together are not worth a pint of stale owl pee.

I would agree. This is likely a guy who just kept waiting for some magic bus to pull up and help him out of a ditch. I doubt if he really could progress in life....without the government helping him.

Yah...most “Democrats” are technically Communists.....most “Republicans” are really Democrats” ala 1980’s.....

the current presidential election is technically between a Communist and a Democrat .....any True Republican, or American for that matter, has little representation in this contest.

Shallow indeed—or worse. Maybe I missed it, but I didn’t see where this guy mentioned on conservative principle that he ever supported. He mentioned candidates (personalities), but not ideas. And he demonizes the Tea Party without ever saying why. Does he buy the Liberal line that they’re all racists? And I guess he’s all on board with the “climate change” crowd.

Anyway: Buh, bye Mr. Stafford. Don’t let the door hit your a$$ on the way out.

“...scornful of compromise...”

As soon as I saw that killer word “compromise” I knew this chubby little RINO was not worth reading.

COMPROMISE is the bread and butter of the go along to get along party and chubby is now falling on the ground and having a fit since the Tea Party has forced some of the GOP to quit compromising in order to keep their political seats.

When I moved recently and had to re-register to vote, I registered as an Independent.

I almost did that after moving to Florida, but if you do then you cannot vote in the primaries here.
Since Florida does not allow cross over voting, and is also an extremely important swing state, I chose to remain able to vote in, and influence, the primary election process.

I would NEVER vote for a Democrat ever, but I can’t say I am the party of Karl Rove et al either.

Amen brother...

Well Michael Stafford,
If you don’t want to be a republican, that is your right to freedom of choice, but you sound more like you’ve been a lifelong RINO than an actual Conservative Republican.
I’m sure Obama’s minion will welcome you with open arms and don’t let the door hit you in the butt on you way out.

Why does the drama queen make this change now? Everything he talks about has been this way for 15-20 years. Why now? Election year?

This is very encouraging. RINOs are getting the message that it isn’t exclusively their party any more.

Guys like Stafford just stink the place up.

Mr, Stafford,

I’m sure your (self reported) hero Reagan would embrace the tea party and spit you out.

“Almost like he was a hard-core leftist in masquerade”

That is exactly what this is - bogus. Either that, or this guy hit his head real hard on something, scrambling his brain.
