Election 2012: Whoever wins the blame game over the weak recovery wins the election. The record shows that President Obama is most at fault. But shockingly, most Americans don't see it that way.
A new IBD/TIPP poll shows fully three-fourths of Americans continue to blame President Bush and Republicans for today's poor economy.
While such attitudes are shocking, we believe they haven't yet caught up with the facts, and merely reflect the prevailing White House and media spin.
On Friday, for example, Obama faulted GOP leaders on the Hill, arguing they've blocked his pro-union jobs plan "simply because it's an election year."
His surrogates have parroted the line in the media. On ABC's "This Week" show on Sunday, former Obama aide Van Jones suggested Republicans are actually rooting for Obama and the unemployed to fail.
"Obama's a lifeguard trying to help people drowning," while "these guys are sitting back on a rock hoping more people drown," said Jones, an avowed socialist.
Democrat operative Ed Rendell chimed in: "They're cutting police and ending safety on the streets."
MSNBC's "Hardball" host Chris Matthews read from the same talking points in a June 4 broadcast.
"Republicans in Congress put up their wall to action," he said. "They don't want Obama to succeed so they're giving him nothing that he could call success."
Repeating the theme, a "congressional expert" appeared on one of the network's morning shows the day before to scold Republicans for "obstructionism."

It’s the Democrat Party playbook! It sucked when the Dems had it ALL for 2 years!
This is why it was a dumb idea to put an immature child in the Oval Office. A man takes responsibility for his actions. Little Barry is not capable of doing that. It’s always someone else’s fault.
So true, so true
That is exactly right. There was nothing wrong with the economy when the Republicans were in charge. The economy was thriving and unemployment was practically nonexistent. Things changed however when the rats took over
NO, BUT HELL NO
Obama is coming unglued.
That press conference last Friday has his supporters in a full-bore panic.
Such a massive own-goal when he didn’t even have to do anything!
Obama somehow still thinks he’s the only smart guy in the whole country, and that all he has to do is tell everyone to shut up and we all will.
Obama is destroying his own re-election campaign and Presidency!
Obama blames . . . . . . . . . . . .
For a family of four, that's the $64 thousand dollar bullet point that they should be considering when the coming election comes around.
Oh, right, the blame game - it's Bush's fault, I inherited the economy claims Obama. It's Congress that is holding up the recovery... Senator Obama voted to put a cap of 2.1 trillion dollars of deficit, which he said at the time anticipated a downturn in the economy. He's more than doubled it - tripled or more if you start counting the off the books debt that is being shuffled around by the Fed.
Fully one third of the entire national debt came into existence on Obama’s watch, yet it's Bush's fault. One half of the GDP in government IOUs. Come November, that debt will be over 6 trillion, with a possible 7 trillion total in debt before Obama finishes his term in office.
Quick, let's look at Romney's attack on this... Oh, right, I keep forgetting, he's trying not to attack Obama on spending, because if he does, he might have his own hands tied in bettering Obama’s record at slapping up the national deficit.
Of all the times, we desperately need someone to step up to the plate and explain to the American people just how bad off Obama’s made this nation - not just for today, or tomorrow, but for generations as we service this debt. And in the process, put the fire to Romney's feet to force his hand into actually seeking a smaller government footprint.
“(It’s Never His Fault!!!)”
In reality, this may be true. It is the fault of the nincompoop, liberal, leftist, racist voters who elected him. His incompetence was know long before he became a presidential candidate in 2008. But most who knew it did the cover up, like the Lamestream Media is still mostly doing today.
But it is his fault. And it is the fault of the voters who put him there. It is also the fault of the GOP for putting forth such an inept candidate as the not even a good ‘RINO’, Jaun McLame. And it is the fault of the Clintons, for allowing themselves to be intimidated by this evil piece of Chicago Kenyan $hit.
