Jerusalem is Israel's capital and has been so since the time of David. It has never been the capital of any other country, unlike Istanbul (renamed after the conquest of the Eastern Roman Empire in approximately 1492). It's a sobering fact that Constantinople held off against the Muslims until the time of Christopher Columbus.
