re: “I actually think only people who work and/or pay taxes should be able to vote.”

I empathize with your idea about restricting voting to people who are producers in our country. But, remember that many people get laid off, businesses goes bankrupt, personal tragedies happen (auto accidents, sickness, etc.) - all these people would have been in the workforce and paying taxes until these types of events happen.

If you lost your job tomorrow, should you be prevented from voting? Or, if you had some kind of debilitating illness and had been unemployed for several months while recovering - should you not be allowed to vote?

Maybe a case could be made for people who have NEVER worked or who haven’t paid taxes over a certain number of years - but, even that - you know how it would be portrayed in the media.

As I said, I like the sentiment, but I think it would be next to impossible, in this day and age, to ever get anything like that through congress, let alone signed by a president. But, I could be wrong if things get bad enough - who knows?

You make some good points, but it does seem wrong when we have people like that woman who thought Obama was going to pay her rent voting. Although, for all I know she has a job!

There are plenty of idiots in every walk of life, and I guess we can’t blame the welfare recipients for foisting Obama on us.
