Unless The Big One causes both SF and LA to tumble into the Pacific Ocean, California will never return to the Republican fold.

I wouldn't say never. As long as Obozo is defeated in November, CA should lose a lot of the under-table federal debt support it has received from the Fed. The state will be forced into the situation WI and MI are digging out of. Those states swung republican when they got bad enough.

Illinois may be the state simply eats itself completely.

True re: WI and MI, but those states' populations are such that the conservative bastions can overcome those of the loony left. Problem with CA is, the loons in SF and LA don't care about the fiscal situation. And they know at the end of the day the feds will give it to them if the state were to fail, so they'll get their slice of the pie no matter what. They see their situation as a no-lose one. And never forget about the rapidly growing population of Mexicans who have anschluess with the Fatherland on their mind. The singular hope for CA is if it splits into two entities, which won't happen. The big cities need to leech the resources of the other regions.
