That could be said of many “blue” states(IL, MA , OR, WA, PA, NY , ME ,etc.)

The democrat voting base is all in the big cities:

Chicago, Boston, Seattle, NYC, both Portlands, Philly and Pittsburgh. I grew up in western NY. We always wanted to split off everything south of Westchester county and make it a different state.

Even in extremely liberal states like Mass, if you go outside of the 495 beltway, most people are Republican.

I think the last major Republican city is San Diego and it's been eroding quickly in recent years.

The city council may have shifted back to the right with Tuesday's primary but the congressional delegation for the area might shift Dem by one thanks to redistricting that targeted Brian Bilbray.

Mayor's election this year is between a good fiscal conservative, city councilman Carl DeMaio (37), and a registeredSocialist, retiring Congressman Bob Filner (70).

I grew up in Central NY and we always talked about cutting the state off south of Westchester!
