U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren passionately defended her Native American heritage, after reaching Springfield by train today for the state Democratic Convention on Saturday.
About 5,000 delegates on Saturday are expected to vote to endorse Warren as the Democratic pick for Senate to face Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown in November. The endorsement could give her some momentum for the months before the general election.
"My mother and father fell in love," Warren, 63, told reporters after disembarking from a train with dozens of supporters at the train station and then rallying backers with a stump speech at Stearns Square Park.
"My fathers people said he should not marry her because she is part Cherokee and part Delaware. They eloped in order to deal with that. That is my mothers story," she said.
Warren, a Harvard law professor, hit back at criticism that she may have initially said she was unaware that Harvard had listed her as a minority. She also denied that her academic career was enhanced by the status.
"I've said exactly the same thing and that is that I let Harvard know after I was hired,'' Warren said. "I let the University of Pennsylvania know after I was hired. This is part of my family. I never received any benefit from it. Every single person who has been involved in hiring me has issued a statement to that effect."
She said she will never forsake her American Indian background.
"I have never backed off from my Native American heritage and I am never going to back off from my Native American heritage," she said.

Little Running Gag strikes again.
Shut-up and go grind some corn like a good little squaw, Elizabeth.
Springfield Ma is the original home of Indian Motorcycles. Wonder if she knows this.
God, I’m getting sick of her SQAUWking about this. Be brave, Elizabeth. This affirmative action totem pole has to be dismantled. Scott Brown isn’t just going to beat his opponents, he’s going to Wampum.
If Warren's 1/32 American Indian, then her mother would have been 1/16 American Indian. I find it extremely hard to believe that her father's family in Oklahoma (fka "Indian Territory") would have objected to his bride because one of her long-dead great-great grandparents was an American Indian.
There is only one slight problem — SHE HASN’T GOT ANY INDIAN BACKGROUND! It was a lie to take advantage of Affirmative Action hiring; a real steal from a REAL Native American to advance her career. Not that this bothers the Demos in the slightest; the same people who went into hysterics over Nixon’s supposed “crimes’ shut their traps tight when the thievery involves one of their own. Oh ye hypocrites!

She looks to me like she might actually have some Native American genes. Why won’t she just get tested? Or... maybe she has, and plans on cutting critics off a the knees as the election approaches..
Just when you think this woman can’t possibly get any more delusional, she goes right ahead and does it.
Amazing.
“My fathers people”
What a joke. Double Down on 1/32nd.
Two things:
1. If Lieawatha's mom was 1/16 INDIAN, this statement says her mom was actually 1/32 Delaware and 1/32 Cherokee, which makes Lieawatha 1/64 Cherokee and 1/64 Delaware. so her Cherokee bonafides are down to 1.56%.
2.How did a Cherokee and a Delaware get together in the first place?
On the bank, of a river, stood Running Bear. Young indian brave.
On the far side, of the river, stood Little White Dove.
Running Bear,
loved Little White dove,
with a love,
that wouldn’t die......
I forget how the song goes after that, but maybe that song is where the squaw from MA gets her heritage from!
She heard her history on the radio.
Here’s a transcript of her speech:
They took the whole Cherokee nation
And put us on this reservation
They took away our ways of life
The tomahawk and the bow and knife
They took away our native tongue
And taught their English to our young
And all the beads we made by hand
Are nowadays made in Japan
Cherokee people
Cherokee tribe
So proud to live
So proud to die
They took the whole Indian nation
Locked us on this reservation
And though I wear a shirt and tie
I still part Redman deep inside
Cherokee people
Cherokee tribe
So proud to live
So proud to die
And some day when they’ve learned
Cherokee Indian will return
Will return will return
Will return will return
Big deal. My kids are part Thai and part New Jersey. We fixed the latter by moving.
This women is bubbling over with bull buffalo excrement.
Her new straw man is to defend Native American heritage, which has never been an issue.
The issue is that she used ancient family folklore (assuming she didn’t just make it up) to invent herself a minority status and grab an affirmative action wicket.
This woman is pathological.
Poor ol’ Cow Patty
She didn’t get a vote
Poor ol’ Cow Patty
Yes, that is all she wrote
Is it any wonder that her run is deferred
Cow Patty that poor ol’ injun heifer
Despite her despicable lies she might win. The race is 50-50.
