Virginia Democratic Rep. Jim Moran joined the growing chorus of opposition to the proposed Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial on Tuesday, just ahead of Fridays scheduled hearing on the monuments controversial design.
I have also met with members of the Eisenhower family and share their objections to the current design, Moran wrote in a letter obtained by The Daily Caller. While the Eisenhower Memorial is very far along in the process, I have approached several of my colleagues who serve on the commission and encouraged them to rethink their support and allow a new public competition on an alternative design.

I think they should just stop with the memorials in DC all-together. The National Mall is getting too crowded, and the people in Washington who design them are do not represent the people or history of the United States. They live in a beltway bubble.
If you never have, I suggest visiting the Eisenhower museum complex in Abilene, Kansas. It’s off of I-70. As a Kansan, I’m pretty proud of it.
I was there as a toddler. My mom claims I had an body function related “accident” on the monument. Sorry Ike.
Exactly. That abomination is more about the artist's ego than the purpose and message of the memorial, which he obviously distains and fails to comprehend.
This is NOT a nice memorial design.
And why is it impossible to build a memorial for less than $100,000,000 in DC? What’s wrong with a statue and some flowers?
Any Ike memorial design that does not celebrate his fantastically successful “Operation Wetback” should be scrapped.
When they’re done, it will probably be an indirect monument to Obama.
Is this another upside down, black “monument”? I will not visit the Vietnam war memorial. I think it is insulting. Memorials are supposed to be white, and upward projecting, symbolizing good, truth, heaven, God, etc. They should not be black holes, representing evil, ignorance, hell, the devil.
