The USS Illinois, the first Navy submarine to be staffed by an all-female crew, received the support of the White House on Memorial Day.
On Monday, First Lady Michelle Obama officially sponsored the Virginia-class submarine, which will be one of the newest nuclear-powered boats scheduled to enter the fleet by 2015, according to a White House statement.

Females have been on PCO tours for the past two years.
I asked for serious responses. You failed.
What we have here in your response is a failure of imagination.
The object is to get the sub supplied. Just because it was done one way in the past does not mean that it has to be done the same way in the future.
Time will tell if your assertion is true.
Are you willing to eat crow if proven incorrect?
So...you think after more than 100 years, the submarine force has failed to ‘imagine’ a better way of loading stores on the boat?
BTW, what other of the tens of thousands of tasks that are routinely performed on a submarine are going to have to be ‘re-imagined’ to allow women to perform them? And, by the very fact that you have to ask that question, aren’t you acknowledging women can’t do the job?
Again the question....How is submarine warfighting readiness improved by the inclusion of women?
I didn't fail because you weren't asking me. Your question was addressed to another poster. I only chimed in for the fun of it. ;-)
“PCO tours”???
Not familiar with the term.
Are you saying that Females have been crewmembers on US submarines for the past two years?
PCO = Perspective Commanding Officer
Yes, woman have been serving on subs since 2008.

You continue to show a failure of imagination.
Just because something has been done one way for weeks, years or decades does not mean that way is the only or even the best way to do the task.
If cops had failures of imagination like you then they would still be carrying .38 Specials.
“The first female officers began serving aboard submarines last November... “
From article dated May 24, 2012
I found lots of articles dated 2010 talking about PLANS, but nothing about full-time crew members.
“The current program allows female officers to serve on large ballistic and guided missile submarines, but not on the smaller, fast-attack submarines. Participating via phone link, Vice Adm. John Richardson, commander, submarine forces, said no decisions have been made about whether to allow women to serve on the attack submarines or to expand the program and allow enlisted women to also serve in the submarine force.”
Reading between the lines, I’d say what he really wanted to say was, “This Administration and the political hacks at the Pentagon are pushing us to expand this to attack boats and enlisted. We are fighting it tooth & nail.”
So, no trained enlisted, let alone experienced personnel or NCO leadership.
All around stupid idea, designed to degrade the effectiveness of the US military and gain “brownie” points with college girls. The Democrats talk about the Republican’s “War on Women”, yet the Democrats seem to want “War Waged by Women”.
“As I recall there was a female pilot that the brass moved
ahead too quickly because of feminist pressure. She ended up
dead.”
I went through Flight School in Pensacola with the first 4 women Naval Aviators. One already had 800 hours civilian time and was OK. They really bent the rules for some of the others. A man would have been washed out several times for doing what these ladies did.
They all four ended up with their names on the wall at the Air & Space Museum at the Smithsonian.
DISCRIMINATION! Where’s my name? I had better grades at flight school! ;-)
You owe me a new keyboard!
