US Special Ops commander: Weve sent troops into North Korea By David Martosko - The Daily Caller 12:14 PM 05/28/2012 ADVERTISEMENT
U.S. Army Gen. Neil Tolley, commander of U.S. Special Operations Forces in South Korea, told an audience in Tampa that U.S. and South Korean forces have been sent into North Korea to spy on the communist countrys vast collection of underground tunnels and military installations.
The extraordinary admission, which went unreported by U.S. media, came on May 22 during the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference. Tolley said his command has identified 20 airfields and 180 munitions factories that are partially underground, along with thousands of subterranean artillery positions.
The entire tunnel infrastructure is hidden from our satellites, Tolley added, according a report published Monday by The Diplomat, a Japan-based foreign affairs magazine.
So we send ROK [Republic of Korea] soldiers and U.S. soldiers to the North to do special reconnaissance.
North Korea, he said, has dug tunnels underneath the Demilitarized Zone separating it from the South. There were four tunnels under the DMZ, Tolley observed, according to a Tampa Tribune blogger. Those are the ones we know about.
Tolleys commandos, he said, parachute into North Korea to watch the tunnels and gather intelligence, carrying the bare minimum of supplies to avoid detection.

Yep. Trying to stir up NK, I’d say.
If this is true I hope it’s only disinformation designed to get the North Koreans to waste resources chasing down non-existent Special Operations Forces.
On the other hand if it’s true these people need to shut the hell up.The public doesn’t need to know about it.
North Korea does the same. Its nothing new but I’d say the timing of going public is designed to generate a response.
Thanks Sub-Driver.
This intel could be several years old by now. But if it makes the NorKs start chasing their own tail then that is great.
Some of them concern me considering the election is coming up very soon. A true threat is one thing, but sabre-rattling by an incumbent that may be fearful of the outcome is another.
I’ve been at various conferences open to the public where covert intelligence-gathering operations in other countries have been discussed in non-specific terms. I don’t think it is any secret that we are using eyes on the ground along with all of our other resources to gather information on a continuous basis.
My cuz serves at Red Cloud in Sokor. He’s frontline there but he kinda hinted it has been true for the past few years.
Under this regime, more so within the U.S. by our own insurgent government than on foreign soil.
I sure as hell hope the NK security forces have orders against profiling, for the sake of the U.S. soldiers............./................it's not like they can blend in among 15 million Yanks
It sounds like they rediscovered "Swiss Cheese Mountain".
It’s more public knowledge than you’d think. I’ve been hearing it for a while.
Or we will see more "car accidents" by the pot belly dictator No. II. Psych Ops to make him more paranoid and then crack?
MI/SOCOM Ping
I saw this earlier, judging by personal photos I saw at a French MI officer’s apartment once, NATO used to do LRRP missions into the Eastern block.
Maybe they are more common than most of us know.
If true, definitely duty reserved for those with masses of hair on their chests and an abundance of male hormones.
One doesn’t even like to THINK about what might be the fate of anyone captured.
