A large number of folks on his Grandmother’s side share descent from Oneida Indians ~ but I haven’t seen anything in her widely publicized book of a genealogy that would suggest Cherokee.
Could be someone has miscontrued the Oneida as being Mingo, and they are frequently confounded with the neighboring Cherokee.
