In New Jersey for example, grandma will get up to 1249.00/month for providing room and board, plus a clothing allowance of 88.80, and this is PER CHILD.
Plus food stamps, Medicaid, and Section 8 housing.
I can’t tell you how many urban black women I work with that have just one child; the welfare reform worked in dropping the birthrate (that is how Hispanics passed blacks in numbers 10 years ealrier than anticipated - in 2000 instead of 2010). On the other hand, it is difficult to work with people who should have never been passed from the third grade; they apparently never thought they would work, and are woefully unprepared in basic skills.
