Call it the return of the Reichsfluchtsteuer.
....
I think Schumer can probably find the legislation to do this. It existed in Germany in the 1930s and Rhodesia in the 70s and in South Africa as well, Norquist said. He probably just plagiarized it and translated it from the original German.
The Reichsfluchsteuer, or Reich flight tax, that German government imposed on Jews trying to flee in the 1930s was 25 percent; Schumer and his Senate colleague Bob Casey, Democrat of Pennsylvania, want 30 percent. Give Schumer some credit for creativity.
According to Norquist, the New Yorker did not just plagiarize and translate. He also raised the rate. ....

You seem to believe that all money rightfully belongs to the government. I am no communist but you are hypocrite. So IYO a draft dodger in Canada is a noble person to you? Taxes suck, everyone pays them. He should pay his taxes and leave, no special levies should apply. Actually I hate all income taxes and think tariffs and an NSRT should replace them.

Wow. Some of the posts on this thread are absolutely appalling on a conservative website no less! Class envy rearing its head once again. NO conservative I know would be in favor of ANY of this Schumer/Boner nonsense!

FINANCIAL REPRESSION:
1. Capital Controls - includes directed lending to government by captive domestic audiences (such as pension funds, banks, etc.)
2. Tightly controlled interest rates, artificially low, while maintaining a higher rate of inflation,
3. Regulation of cross-border capital movements, and a tighter connection between government and banks.

Isn't this a direct tax? If so, does it comply with Article I, Section 2, Clause 3 of the Constitutuion?
"Representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers..."

You do realize that in a free society people should be free to leave?Funny, if alive today, I wonder how Jeff Davis and Robert E. Lee would answer your question.

“Taxes suck, everyone pays them.”
WTH! No. Everyone does NOT pay taxes. Which is a large part of the problem.

central_va's good people. I think he's just missing the big picture about how it STARTS here, but in a very short period of time, becomes an absolute and across-the-board obstacle to travelling out of the US. This is the oldest trick in the totalitarian playbook. China, Germany, the Soviet Union, Cuba, North Korea... they all do or did this.
And now it appears to be our turn.

Just wondering ... Where is it in scripture that envy is a vice? Just did a Bible search for "envy". Got 35 matches.

Apparently Schumer fits into another category from the early days of the Reich.
He has Lebensunwertes Leben, “a life unworthy of life.”
Though he would put Republicans and conservatives into this category, the real dehumanization is in those who dehumanize. Just as it was in Nazi days, it was the Nazis who were the subhumans, not those they called subhuman.
To: montanajoe
If you don't like it here get the hell out...its a simple concept. On one hand, you say that.
On the other hand, you would establish controls to prevent that.
Let me ask you in the language you understand, then: Действительно ли Вы являетесь сумасшедшими, введены в заблуждение, или пьяны?

I don’t think M-joe is arguing in favor of a special expat levy, which IMO could be a bill of attainder which is unconstutional. He is just saying he should pay his taxes and GTFO. The Billionare and the pauper are free to leave.

If someone is renouncing their citizenship and leaving the US because of taxes, opposition to war or for whatever reason all I can say is don't let the door hit you in the ass. Cant feel much sympathy if the get clipped by a 30% tax on the way out. Yeah. Same for those that leave California for a lower tax state like Texas. Charge them a 30% tax. That'll show em.
