AP ^ | May 17, 2012 | Staff

More than 900 million people worldwide check their Facebook accounts at least once a month, but millions more are Facebook holdouts. They say they don't want Facebook. They insist they don't need Facebook. They say they're living life just fine without the long-forgotten acquaintances that the world's largest social network sometimes resurrects. They are the resisters.

Never got sucked in and have no desire to have a page.

Only problem is that my local news channel website requires FB to post comments. Not that I need to post there, but it was amusing to put up comments that could be taken in many different ways.

people were crazy to trust him with their personal information

With all the dirt he knows on people Mark Zuckerberg might become the first Jewish President of the USSA, Putin style... for life.

Signed up so I could comment on some articles in various newspapers as they now demand it. Recently disabled FB and won't reactivate no matter how badly I want to sound off.

FB keeps sending me notes that my account is deactivated and I need to "update" their files (I just used a shell email and left minimal info). Just for grins I checked it out again and now they want my cell or land line number to "make sure I was a real person".

I know that FB claims this, but I'm having a hard time believing it.

As you know, one can be active on FB under a pen name. The general public has no idea who you are. FB does have an email addy, but I use GMail for that.

I think the cat is out of the bag regarding any expectation of privacy in this country, especially on the internet. Your information is readily available via local and state government records like real estate taxes, etc.

Heh, heh, from FB to Google (gmail)? Yeesh. Anything Google is flypaper as well. Yeh, I know, they don’t read your email...or the transactions surrounding the generation and/or communication thereof...or do they.

What does this mean? I have trend micro and it certainly is not the cookie protector that norton on the old windows was. I cannot really stop any cookies withit on windows 7. I am contantly emptying out my cache.

This is what we're talking about: AVG Do Not Track

It is part of the latest version of AVG antivirus software.

I don't use my GMail for anything that I wouldn't want known by everyone, including Google.

If they care what Deal Chicken has on today, or what the pollen advisory is, they're welcome to it.

Does anyone know exactly how to shut down an account? I thought I had shut mine done then my sister told me someone had posted something to me.

I tried just about everything, then announced that I had died. Still didn't work as all my "friends" held a wake! Seriously, there is a "quit Facebook" function which offers two options; one archives all you personal data in case you change your mind and holds your account inactive and off line, the other wipes the slate clean. I used the second option and I'm still getting "friend" requests from people I do not know...

It used to be "Death & Taxes" to which has been added Facebook, I gave up.

Regards,
GtG

Everything you write on the internet stays on the internet, even stuff before the internet shows up on the internet. There has not been privacy for a long long time, if there actually was. When I was a kid a million years ago in a rural farming area we had party lines, everyone knew everything about everyone, our phone ring was two longs and a short (not sure why I still remember that).
You are right Grey its all out there.
