Raccoon eyes may be accompanied by Battle's sign, an ecchymosis behind the ear. These signs may be the only sign of a skull fracture, as it may not show on an X-ray. They may not appear until up 2–3 days after the injury.[3] It is recommended that the patient not blow their nose, cough vigorously, or strain to prevent further tearing of the meninges.[4]

Huh?

First of all, a black eye does not appear until the next morning. But just what are you talking about?

Every time I've had my nose broken (several times) I've wound up with black eyes.

When I had my nose broken (as part of a nose job), the black eyes did not show up until the next day — along with MASSIVE pain!

Sorry if I was unclear.

There is news that Zimmerman saw a doc the next day and people are asking why, if he had black eyes, did he not see a doc immediately.

People are thinking it’s “convenient” that he saw a doc the next day, or maybe he “faked” his injuries.

I posted a link to a relevant wiki reference.

I worked in healthcare for awhile. It’s usual for black eyes to take time to appear and when the person hasn’t been HIT in the eyes, they can be a sign of skull injury.

What a darn picken minute... I’m not buying that picture of Zimmerman. If I’m not mistaken, that kinda looks like one of them thar media photoshops...

OK, so you assert that the reason Zimmerman waited a day to see a doc was because his symptoms [possibly black eyes] didn’t show up until a day later?

To support your assertion, you posted a link that states that sometimes skull injuries manifest the following day - called “raccoon eyes”.

Certainly plausible. Do you know what symptoms Zimmerman was experiencing that sent him the following day to the doc? WAS it black eyes?

...and say that police should have seen that and taken him to the hospital.

You can't be “taken” to the hospital unless you agree to it. Police have no authority to order that for someone who is conscious and cognitive

So you go to emergency, wait 6 hours, a doctor prescribes aspirin every 4 hours and tells you to go see your doctor tomorrow.

Or you go home and rest with people who love you and will watch over you.

Good catch, it’s sort of unlikely that Zimmerman would have gotten hit in both eyes in what sounds more like a WWF style assault...

And you pay 6-8 hundred bucks toward your insurance deductible to boot

I played rugby since I 17, my face hurt at the third half(after party), but I noticed, when there was trauma to my face, the badge of honor showed up the next dayday; broken bones heal and chicks dig scars.

Funniest black eye I ever got was from breaking up a chick fight in a bar. One of the chicks popped me in the eye. I laughed as said “you hit like a girl”. She popped me again. I laughed again.

Went back to my bar stool and never felt a thing. When I woke up in the morning and went to brush my teeth....I said “oh * me you stupid * “ when I saw myself in the mirror.

I got a lot of harassment over that one.

You most assuredly can in Wisconsin (if your drunk enough). A BAL of 0.398% is good for a free pass to the ER.

GtG

PS Conscious yes, cognitive kinda, well not so much.
