Chuck DeVore, former California Assemblyman has moved to Texas and sings our praises, while pointing out the pitfalls of statist California:
Texas bureaucracy, excluding teachers, is 22 percent smaller as a portion of the population than is Californias, with every Texan paying about $467 a year for government retiree benefits, compared to Californias $1,105 in pension costs. Sky-high benefits for bureaucrats may soon cause the bankruptcy of Stockton, Californias 13th-largest city.California has more government paper-pushers but Texas has 17 percent more teachers per capita, with educational outcomes favoring the Lone Star State. In fact, Texas K-12 schools perform consistently above the national average across age, racial, and subject matter areas, while California schools perform well below the national average.
To support its bloated government, California asks more of its taxpayers who pay 10.6 percent of their income to state and local government, above the U.S. average of 9.8 percent. Texans pay only 7.9 percent.

I heard Mark Levin read most of this yesterday on his show.
And Texans pay far too much... These should be diminished until ZERO. Pensions should go away and people should have to pay their own retirement. If a pension were to remain it should be 100% funded before granted. No Debt to finance it, and no future payments. Our debt driven economy is going to make us Greece soon.
Term limits for all state employees.
That should do it.
I heard it on Levin’s show too. Can’t say I blame DeVore for doing this.
No one like a quitter Chuck.
Who’s a quitter?
Former Assemblyman? Do not know all the facts but.... did he take the pension that CA politicians provided themselves, protect it while in office and the go to Texas once he retires?
Would seem a bit hypocritical to then slam CA for their problems if he is now benefitting AND not paying CA taxes.
Just sayin.....
You’re making accusations when you don’t know the facts? Google it!
How about the issues and facts in the article, rather than your distractions?
PS: State Taxes in Georgia are 3% less, and property taxes now 50% less.
Loaded up the Truck and MOVED OUT OF BEVERLY.
BTTT
Pensions that are fully funded by employers or unions are a thing of the past, but I do believe in keeping a contract so we have to plan on the pensions we have.
In fact, Governor Perry has championed changing our State pensions to private plans.
Texas has kept a lid on our spending and debt.
DeVore was a proponent of pension reform, was term limited. Took a job in Texas, with the Texas Public Policy Foundation, a very Conservative think tank.http://www.texaspolicy.com/
Where our biggest bite of tax dollars go - is to schools and again as the story said, TX out performs most in the nation with the 47th lowest cost per student. Sounds like the people are getting their monies worth compared to most states.
No one likes YOUR shithole of a State either “edcoil”. What’s wrong, you mad because SOMEONE escaped!?
Nope
I would say Texas is not doing poorly right now. But my father was a Texas Deputy Sheriff and died, my elderly mother gets his pension. I understand the obligation. We need to transfer them to private and remove it.
Thanks for the information! It’s hard to believe that Texas gets such - and so much - bad press.
Made no accusations, just posited a question.
There are plenty of politicians who do advocate for issues once they have left office and can no longer affect such changes.
Moving to Texas from California isn’t quitting, it is winning, kind of like leaving Europe for America for our freedom loving ancestors.
California is a hell hole of liberalism, don’t be so tied to one place.
No, you made an accusations.
On a forum to ask ask such a question as you did instead of looking into it first to see if it was a valid question, is a form of making an accusation or even an unsubstantiated claim, or rumor.
You tell us, did he?
