Can you imagine losing a ten thousand dollar drone to a thirty dollar “air hog” with a few fish hooks on stainless leaders!
You carefully remove the ends, or cut large holes in them ~ then you place two small mirrors (maybe 1.5 X 1.5 inches) at each end and scratch a pinhole sized clear spot on one of them.
You hook up the RF stage of that old radio to a copper coil. One design has a 1/4 diameter copper tube carrying the signal for you.
You place the copper coil around the light at about midpoint.
Go the next stage and pump in some pure CO2 (through a hole with valve (a fish tank valve will do) into that tube.
You will need a relief valve at the other end to let the CO2 push out the air, and other intert materials.
PLug in the radio.
Oh, first, get some really heavy duty sunglasses that STOP infrared because your brand new MASER will be broadcasting a coherent signal at Infrared frequencies out through that pinhole.
Obviously peak power on this puppy isn't going to be all that good but you can add coils and more RF stages from old tube type radios ~ or maybe even take a radar gun and output an RF signal from it into the coils (just like any broadcast antenna).
With a little practice you should be able to use this device to set fire to pesky things ~ and it's invisible ~ not at all like those tacky red light and green light lasers.
Best of all nobody will see you buy the parts.
The patents are expired on this design.
Now thats a frugal FReeper!!!
Simple, elegant and downright genius!!!
Whats the reception range of an Airhog???
I know they sell some upsized knockoffs at some kiosks in the malls around the country that could do the same thing...I think their range is only about a couple hundred feet though...
